I'm lucky!
I can't believe that last year this very same processor sold for around $1,000.00!Using a MSI motherboard, I had to update the BIOS with a new version to support the dual-core processor.Pulled my old processor out and plugged this one in with no problems - Windows XP SP2 recognized it immediatly and installed all necessary support software automatically.After the restart, it easly smoked my previous 3200 2GHz Venice core and loaded Adobe Photoshop CS2 so fast I stared at it for 10 seconds before I realized it was already open and ready to work.
Developer - X2 3.0+ in the near future
I worked on AMD's X2 (dual core) technology until about a year ago.The 2.4 will be a fleeting upgrade.The technology has already been developed up until the X2 3.2GHz (as of February 2006).This is however a really great price on the latest technology.But don't try to hold out for the X4 (quad-core) ... 2008 is the soonest we'll see that from AMD (but the X8 is not too far behind).But if you are building now, this is a fantastic chip that will keep up with the latest software for about 4-5 years.

Power to Price Ratio is Unbeatable!
Since AMD slashed prices on their entire line of CPU's to compete with Intel's new Conroe's, these X2 line of processors have become a great buy for the money.The 4800+ continues to amaze me.It takes a conscience effort to slow this thing down.I load up multiple programs and do some serious multi-tasking and this CPU doesn't even pause.Only while running Windows Update on a WinXp X64 VMWare machine at the same time I was doing several other things did the CPU slow down a bit and I had to wait a few seconds.Thats incredible.Grab up this proc while you can.AMD is discontinueing all exept one of the CPU's with the dual 1MB L2 cache. I believe only keeping the FX-62's.The rest will just be the 512kb L2 cache.You wont regret this CPU... even though it is a socket 939. ... Read more

Excellent Processor
Stable.Runs cool with my Scythe Ninja Heatsink/fan.Good for overclocking.Handles multitasking well.The 4200+ is a great processor.Prices should drop within a few weeks substantially once the new Intel processors hit market.

HP Sucks
HP has the WORST customer service of any company of any kind that I have ever dealt with. I have never called without having spent at least one hour on the phone with them before the various extensions in India, none of whom are helpful. And once the service is complete the computer is usually returned with more problems than they were origionally sent with. I would never buy another HP again.

Computer vs Tech Support
After skimming through the other reviews I have to aggree with most of them.The notebook was fast and more than adequate for school.It played DVDs well and accepts aftermarket software to its nice memory space without slowing down performance.
What happens after 6 months
I got this notebook last fall and was quite happy with it - for a reasonable price the configuration you get is much more better than the competitive laptops. I was thinking that this is a good deal that cannot be true - and I was right.

GREAT PROCESSOR
I DECIDED TO DO A SOCKET 939 BUILD WITH THIS PROCESSOR AFTER USEING INTEL CPU'S FOR YEARS AND I HAVE TO SAY I AM VERY PLEASED SO FAR.

I got this CPU overclocked at 2200Mhz and running MS W Server2003 Enterprise very stable. Mobo is Asus A8N5X bought combo with Powercolor X800 GTO 256mb ddr3 PCIe. 1Gb of crucial ddr PC3200. I spent about $220 for cpu, mobo and gpu.

Great widescreen HP for short money
I bought this HP Pavilion ZV5410US about fifteen months ago. No hardware problems. Just a few dead pixels - that's average, I understand. I play a few DVD's on it weekly. I've used some demanding video editing, photo editing, CAD programs, drawing programs, games... you get the picture; it doesn't choke on anything. I paid $950 for it at Staples on sale. Very happy with it.

Gotta buy this one!
I purchased this computer almost a year ago from Circuit City.I bought it on special for $980!I think it's the best laptop for the money. This is my third laptop and by far the best.It's fast, bright and quite. Everything you can want in a mobile laptop.What sold me was the speakers.Harman/ Kardon are the BOSE system for the common laptop.Wait til you hear one of your MP3's on the system...it ROCKS!The base, the treble, the surround sound.Go to Best Buy and take a listen. ;0)

Best DTR Notebook Value
After reading all of the positive reviews on the HP v5430, I decided to take the plunge and get one myself.Almost 2 weeks later, I have been continually impressed with all the things I can do especially when compared with competing offerings, most of which cost more and have less.

Performance today, power tomorrow
The future of CPUs is undeniably multi-core. Obstacles such as heat have forced both AMD and Intel to begin devolping CPUs with multiple processing cores, opening up a new world of possibilities. Multitasking becomes far more time-efficient as the power of two CPU cores is brought to bear on multiple programs.
Excellent Multitasking and Future-proof
This CPU is one of the best processors out for multi-tasking.It is a great value for your hard earned money.If you mainly do only one thing on your computer at a time, you would be better off with a single core Opteron processor, but if you're like me and are ripping CD's in the background and want to continue using the computer for other things such as playing games, surfing the internet, or any other task, this processor is for you.

Overall a bad choice
The only good thing i can say about this laptop is that it looks good.They call it a amd turion 64 but it comes loaded with only 32 and you have to download the other 32 if you can find out where.The hard drive is configured for split fat 32 instead of ntfs.The resolution is 1680 x 1050 and that makes every thing super small and hard to read.I didnt think about resolution when i bought mine.I still cant figure out what this resolution is good for.Its not good for gaming or surfing the internet.The display screen is very dim set on the brightest setting.The bluetooth mouse seems to work only when it feels like it.The sound is terrible and has static.I bought mine sight unseen and am very disapointed with it.It has a very high price for such a low performing machine.

Ditto... a definite Buy
I didn't buy the 3000+ here though. I bought it...uh, elsewhere ( a site that will be censored dare I name it, a COMPETITOR!) for fifteen bucks less.
This is one mean overclocker- baybee!
In order to save money, you can find this as oem for below 135! Make sure you get a VENICE core however, which not only runs cooler but also has added SSE3 instructions. I am running this with an epox ep 9npaj (make sure you get a good nforce 4 mobo to oc this puppy!) and its at 2.55 ghz under max vcore and full load is only 40 (at max vcore, wow!). I really recommend tossing in a venus 12 heatsink/fan (my current hs/f) which amazon also sells for only 28$, lowest price on the web! Dont waste money on an fx 53 or athlon 64 4000, just get one of these w/ a venice core, clock it up and it's lights out! ... Read more
