I bought this pc to replace an e machines t 3085 that had a damaged motherboard. at first it seemed to be better and i have owned earlier compaqs that i loved. I have since repaired the t3085 and have them running side by side( I broke it to begin with not the fault of the manufacturer.) there is no comparison!!!

Good Computer bad buy
I bought this computer in January of 2002. I have had so many problems with it. Every time I would call up compaq I would wait 2-6 hours just to talk to a support specialist then they would transfer me and again i would wait an additional 1-6 hours. I don't have the patience to wait and if you don't have 10 hours a month to wait on hold with compaq don't buy a compaq.

Not too shabby, but.....
it still suffers from some typical Compaq flaws. This is a handy all around household unit with some gaming features that make it more playable than the 5400. Certainly, the price isn't bad either. However, it does not include a monitor, which you'll need to buy separately. The machine's limitations for gamers lie in its limited, mothboard-bound graphics capabilities (a result of the low power NVidia card) and its mediocre ESS sound. There is an aqequate sized hard drive and a pretty good 12X CD burner, so MP3 collectors will not suffer too much. Anyway, like I said, it's a good, basic machine and if that's your interest, you'll be happy with the unit. I should point out that expanding these Compaqs (a lot like their HP bretheren) is a daunting task; things are tight in the case and adding cards and drives is a challenge, so you better like the machine the way you get it, and not the way you envision it upgraded. Lastly, Compaq's reliability has been acceptable, though its service has been less so.

Compaq the Weapon of Choice
I own a lesser of the line of Compaq (I have a 950 mhz). I have tried Windows XP though. I find that Compaq is a very high quality product. It is up with Dell, above Hewlett Packard. I highly suggest that you do no purchase a Hewlett Packard because of many reasons (see my review on it). I like the audio, keyboard, and all the small things about a Compaq. CD-RW write drives are a must for the future. Windows XP is wonderful for multiple users. It has a sign in screen. You can personalize your sign in with things such as your own wallpaper, sounds, pointing arrow, etc. I also prefer Windows above Apple. I lovet it
This is my second HP PC and All I can say I am very happy costomer, very fast computer. Comparing to my old Pentium II. Can't be Compaq's work alone
My mother's computer was getting old. It was a compaq with 500mHZ and 40 gb and a single cd drive (i put a writer in) and a floppy of course. However 3 weeks ago the cd drive quit working, and her modem went out. The Floppy also went out. So i went shopping on Amazon. I found this. I knew it would be true to my Mom for years to come. I ordered it, i set it up. It went VERY slow for 2100 mHZ. My mother loves it. It does OF COURSE go faster then her 500mHZ old computer. But it still ran really slow. It ran at the speed of my sisters computer, 900mHZ. It surprised me. The gb is awesome. however if you are a person who is constantly using computers. Especially gaming. Great little machine.
Got this for work, and since I'm in IT, it naturally has a good deal of server applications running on it (SQL Server, SMTP server, web server, ftp server), not to mention other random programs like a firewall and Norton with the most paranoid and power-hungry settings possible. I also frequently run programs like photoshop, illustrator, quarkXpress, acrobat, massive excel files, and much more...not to mention the occasional 3d-shooter late at night...don't tell my boss! 6024US worth the money

Gateway and Dell are worth it
I hate to say it, but Gateway and Dell are worth the extra money.Even with their pain in the neck propriety parts. A worthy buy
Now, just to start off. This computer wasn't for me. I already have a few computers better then this one that i built myself. However, my cousins(ages 8/12/13/4) needed to learn on a good computer. And i wanted them to use a company made computer. Since this is the computer ive seen all the local schools buying. I decided to check it out. It was a well worth buying. They easily handled it. The only problem was sometimes when the computer crashes (which is rarely). I'll restart it and it says my password is incorrect. However i reboot and it runs fine. The sixty gigabytes let my cousins install anything they wan't on these. I bought 2. I also bought a compaq laptop for the older of the four since he travels alot. He enjoys it. This compaq computer, allows almsot any installation. It definitly defeats my cousin's old computers i got them from a auction which ran at 7gb and 500mHZ. They really learn from these machines. What a great deal, this can best all the other PCs out there aside from the P4 Extreme Edition gaming rigs (which is NOT 64 bit, and 2x the cost).This uses a ASUS K8N8V-LA PES Nforce3-150 based board and it is loaded with features, and Compaq didn't cripple the BIOS as on previous models of Presario I have seen.Games run well with this card so if you are purchasing this PC great choice.Read more
