4-0 out of 5 stars Laptop's PSU failed within a month, but got replacement quickly
I'd have given this Laptop 3 stars had it not been for the good replacement policy we got from the seller. Basically, the power supply unit on this laptop failed within the first month of use for no aparent reason, however the seller was very prompt and replaced the defective PSU right away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Compaq Presario V5005US Notebook is a dream!
The laptop is beautiful and sleek, with a very comfortable keyboard. It boots rapidly and the resolution is excellent.Couldn't be happier!

1-0 out of 5 stars Keyboard problems
This system has a "chiclet style" keyboard with small plastic shells attached on top of the key mechanisms. On my system, several keytops had a nasty habit of falling off. They are not easy to attach back on the keyboard, and eventually will not attach at all.

For what you'd pay for this Compaq V2555US, you get more than what you'd expect from a value-priced laptop.I bought this system to be used as part of a home business and I'm very glad I did.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Laptop. Let an expert clear soem things up.
This laptop is very good for its price range. The pros far outweigh the cons. The LCD is one of the best I have seen on any laptop including Apple, it is bright, responsive and the image quality is second to none. mainstream application performance is very good, I upgraded from an Athlon XP 1800+ and there is simply no comparison. The laptop is light yet sturdy, battery life is above average and the onboard GPU is excellent for this price range. Contrary to popular belief the Radeon Xpress 200M is very capable of running all modern games with the settings tweaked for performance. Examples I run Need For Speed Underground at Medium resolution with all of the eye candy turned on except for motion blur and it runs smooth as can be, far better than the Radeon 9000 I had in my old laptop, I have successfully played Far Cry, Unreal Tournament 2004, Worlds of Warcraft, Quake 3, Need For Speed Underground 2 and all te EA sports titles. This laptop is not designed for gaming gurus but it indeed can play games. I was very surprised at the audio quality and the volume and crispness of the speakers. There are a few cons which I will list below but they are not enough to make me rate the laptop lower.

4-0 out of 5 stars extraordinary for the money
Bought the M2010 from Circuit City about two weeks after it was introduced for $600 after rebates (all of which have come through, I'm glad to say).I felt it was an extraordinary value then and after using it for several months I haven't changed my mind.Although 40gig in on the short side these days, it appears more than adequate, and in any case one should always have an external HD or disc burner for backup (having had 5 HD failers since 1979, I speak from experience.) My immediate upgrade was an additional 512 meg memory. The great weakness of the M2010 is it's 6 cell battery, which will not get you through a 2 hour DVD; a 12 cell is available, but only from HP at $180, about 1/3 the price of the whole computer.

1-0 out of 5 stars HP makes bad products
HP products are horrible. After about 2 months since purchasing the laptop, something broke and I couldn't use it without the battery in it. So the battery was depleted quickly. Then the power connector on the back went loose, so I had to put up with constant interruptions because I had to always jiggle the power connector in the back for the power to get back on. After a while nothing was working. So I sent it for repair just before the warranty expired. They sent it back and they didn't do anything to fix it. I called customer service again and they told me to send it back. I also purchase a new extended warranty to keep them working on it. I wasted about a month on their incompetence and deception before they called me and said I have to pay for the motherboard because the motherboard is not under warranty. That was the first time I ever heard this. So now I am trying to get the money back for the extended warranty I paid for nothing. Customer service wasn't rude. But the company engages in deceptive practices and makes bad products. Too bad I couldn't give a 0 star.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Laptop & You Just Can't Beat The Price!
I got this at CompUSA for 500+tax AR. This was bought for my parents, so the majority of the usage will be for web surfing and e-mailing. I also have a Toshiba M35 that i paid over 1800 a year or so ago, the majority of this review will be a comparison between the two, yes i know that it is unfair to put this against that other one, but i was surprised at how this laptop can hld its own. I use the benchmark portion that is in a utility program called batteryeater to give you a reference between the two.

3-0 out of 5 stars Average laptop for a good price
I bought my laptop in August of 2004 and it is now March of 2006. I actually bought the R3000 but I hope this review can help others buying laptops (...). I have no idea if HP changed the computer structurally but HP did upgrade the hard drive memory and other smaller features. Buying a laptop was difficult and it is not a task I am looking forward to doing again. It is impossible to balance price and performance along with all the other features in the lower price range that determine weight and battery power. If a buyer wanted the higher end laptop, then there would be less compromise. But then the buyer would probably not be looking at a Presario. After about six months, my touchpad stopped working and my experience with customer service was hellish trying to convince them that the touchpad was in fact a hardware problem. I finally did send the laptop in after numerous hours berating the Indian taskforce. But I have never had a pleasant experience with laptop customer service when it is difficult to prove a hardware problem rather than a software problem. Also, after about a year and a half, my dvd burner stopped burning. I hope HP fixed the DVD setup because its placement is very vulnerable to wear and tear. It was not fun either convincing the service team that my burner did not burner. But, honestly, take the customer service consideration out of the picture because customer service SUCKS at all computer companies.Get the 3 year warranty if you plan on keeping this laptop for more than year. Seriously. Do not mess around. (...). The laptop is very heavy and buy the better battery because the lowerpriced battery can barely sustain the computer for an hour. In fact, if you plan on taking long plane trips and want to use the laptop, this is not the laptop for you although I believe some planes have power outlets now.Do not buy the windows office program. RIPOFF. Get the open source version or scam it from a friend. Basically, if you need perfection in a laptop, invest more money into your laptop. If you can tolerate a good heavy computer with flaws, this is not a bad purchase. But honestly, at this price range, mediocrity is what you will get. Don't expect miracles.

4-0 out of 5 stars For the guy who said this computer sucks
Maybe you're new to laptops, so here are a few facts.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good to buy , Ready for programmers
I have bought this computer 4 mounts ago . I am a computer engineer and as my work needs , I loaded a lot of programming tools like IBM Websphere , oracle 9i DB and extra games on it . By the help of 1GByte memory , enough hard drive and , thanks to AMD , Athlon 3200+ CPU , the computer successfully handle all the hard works . And it also goodat gaming .

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Value
Regarding the issue of the touchpad... you CAN turn off the touchpad via the control panel.I use a mouse only and have no problems with accidental touchpad clicks. As for the available hard drive space... there is a recovery partition (Drive D:) which takes up about 10GB.You can delete that partition if you like and add that space to your C: drive. But make sure you create the recovery disks first so that you can restore the computer to factory-shipped condition if you have a hard-disk failure or something. And my DVD drive is not noisy. They all vibrate a little when spinning up to high speed, that's normal. All in all I'm totally satisfied with what I got for the money -- it does everything you could want a laptop to do except high-end 3D games -- but for that you'd have to spend 3 or 4 times as much money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Value - All A Student, Home User or Intermediate Business User Needs
I really am pleased with this value priced computer. Performance wise it beats the top of the line celeron chip notebooks that cost about what I paid. As configured the 4200 rpm hard drive is a little slow but I'm not complaining. The CD/DVD drive is very noisy. The notebook does not run hot even after hours of use. I can actually keep this on my lap. You will know it is in your lap but I do not find it to be uncomfortably or painfully warm.
5-0 out of 5 stars My First PC notebook....
From the moment I took the notebook out of the box I've had nothing but fun.The set up was easy, I was on line in less than 10 minutes.I've had so much fun with this box, I finally broke down and got rid of my dial up and got wireless DSL.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice for the price
I recently bought this computer to use while stationed here in Iraq and i have had little to nop problem with it.It does get a little hot but if you pop down another 40 or so dollars for a fan (Targus chill hub) then you will have no problem.I have been able to play all the top of the liine games on it no problem whatsoever (BF1942, Star Wars Battle Front, Half Life2)
2-0 out of 5 stars Lew W.
I don't own this computer, but have a Presario 1500 that I need to replace because of overheating/shutdown problems when running more than one program, or very large ones. This is a very frustrating problem that can cause you to loose all unsaved work when it happens. The CD burner has also quit working. This is my second Compaq computer and I plan to try a differnt brand soon to see if the quality is better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Regarding heat sink problem.
I don't own this notebook but I own a presario 1525 model.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great laptop for the price
This is not the most powerful notebook you could get, but for the price it is a very good buy... Furthermore, it is very light, has a wonderful wide-screen monitor (it is amazing!!!) and comes with a CD/DVD recorder. What else can you expect for aproximately US$1100??? My only complaints are that the black plastic that is used to cover the external parts of the computer scratchs very easily and that this computer could come with a processor just a little bit more powerful. Despite of that, it does do the job for most people (it easily stands MS Office, MP3s and a DVD player). The battery lasts around 3 hours and I keep getting wows everytime I take it out of the bag. In brief, I do like my V2110US very much and I would buy one again if I had too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars super
using 11 mon., so far no problems. Most of the time in the car: durable.

4-0 out of 5 stars 5 is for perfect !
I've been using the computer for almost a month now and to summarize my experience so far - LOVE IT. Let me start with the cons first. The outside of the lid IS and looks like plastic - a black plastic. Not a great "looks" feature. But open the lid and you see a beautiful bright 14 inch widescreen with a full-size keyboard - no cramping your fingers for space. And while you are examining the computer to look at its ports and stuff, you notice how light it is - just 5.2 lbs. Weight factor alone should put it in the 1500 price range.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good notebook overall
Had this notebook for 6 months now and the following summarizes my experience so far:
4-0 out of 5 stars very happy with this laptop
This is my first real laptop (also have an extremely old thinkpad.. think no cd drive) and I'm loving it. I've had this compaq for about 4 months and only have minor complaints/issues with it. I found mine on sale for about $800 so the prices vary a lot, so look around before buying it. Even after the minor complaints I would recommend this to anyone, it's great for the price and I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value For Money
I purchased one of these notebooks in May 2006. I would say that I am quite satisfied with the performance... I haven't had any problems in terms of speed.. I get about 130mins battery life with the standard 6 Cell battery with the wireless on, which isn't too bad. It does get a little warm, but not uncomfortably so. I recommend it if you need a computer for light surfing/student use. ... Read more
