Great Computer
Not a huge fan of Intel processors but the 3Ghz Processor with Hyper-threading works great.I have loved using this computer and recently switched at least for now to Linux.I got everything running that I use (can't say for the stuff I don't use since I wouldn't have tried it yet) quickly.I strongly recommend this computer to anyone looking for good power and a quick computer. ... A great buy
I just picked this notebook up last week and I am pretty impressed so far.It's not the best notebook you can buy (hence the 4 out of 5 stars I gave), but you can't beat it for the price right now. Hard to beat for the price
I was looking at buying a Dell, but every time I'd configure the options I wanted, the price jacked up to 1800+. So, I figured I'd wait till the newer Centrinos settled in a bit and picked up this puppy instead for about a grand. Not Overly Pleased -
I have had the 2140us notebook for about 1 month. This is my first notebook to own and can only compare it to a Dell on loan to my wife.The only postive comment I have at this time is that the 15" screen looks great and in a side by side comparison beats the Dell hands down. Read more

College Notebook
This wasn't the exact notebook i was planning on getting, but some relatives pitched in and gave it to me as a graduation present. I was worried about the celeron processor, but i've been pleasantly surprised with the speed and portability of the system. It's a solid little machine thats going to work perfectly for a traveling college student. It doesn't play any real games that require a big video card, but then again, big PC games need to be played on a desktop, which I use in conjuntion with this notebook. I recommend it. 6-cell battery lasts around 1:40 mins, so i'm getting, and recommend getting the 12 cell, which is around $180.00, and will help in it's portability. The size and weight are fantastic, and it's one of the best looking notebooks i've seen, comparable and in some respects surpassing the Sony Vaio lineup. The intergrated wireless is also top rate. I pick up signals that other notebooks of similar cost can't. It's actually quite strong and reliable, and easy to use, which is always a plus. So, overall this is a stable notebook thats worth the money, which isn't that bad in comparison to other laptops out there. ... Read more

Great Computer
Hello, I have had the 2715us for about 4 years now.I am in school and have used the computer very heavily including the floppy, CD drive and burnt about a gad zillion Cd's before it wasn't so illegal.I think the Cd's I burned payed for the computer.Right now there is nothing wrong to report with the computer but I have been thinking about selling it to get a 17 inch screen laptop.I have looked everywhere on line and have not found a used one for sale anywhere.I figure people must be hanging on to them.The 2715US is a great concept in a computer.A laptop cannot ever get "too light" but I did not think the weight of the 2715US was a big issue for me.I knew what I was getting into when I bought it.I have looked at many computers and when I buy new I will miss the floppy drive but that is just me.
Great Computer.
I know this review is late and this computer is already out of date, but I have had this 2715US for 2 years and it has worked flawlessly.No problems at at.If you are looking for a good used computer this is the one to have.The dual optical drives are great.The CDRW works great.I have probably burnt 50 or more CD's.The DVD is great with very good screen resolution.We use the computer as a in car DVD player on road trips.It keeps the kids entertained.Games work great.Tomb Raider AOD has worked great, without any problems, as well as Medal of Honor.I have it networked with 2 other computers with out any problems.So far I have experienced no PIXEL BURN OUT as previously mentioned in other reviews.I have 2 other computers, a desktop P3 1.13 and a XXXX noterbook with a Athlon 1.0 GH cpu and the 2715US is a lot faster and more reliable than the other 2.My wifes prefers this computer to her XXXX laptop.The mouse works great.The speakers sound excellent comparabel with some portable boom boxes.I could go on an on.I highly recommend this computer to anyone.

Poor reliability
I bought a new Compaq Presario 2715US from Ubid. I like all features of the laptop, specially its video and sound quality, seperated DVD and CD-RW drivers, an spare battery. But I quickly found I could not write CD-RW or CD-R disk using its CD-RW driver. After many tries and lost four CD-R disks, I wrote Compaq support and Got their response after one hour (much better than HP). They suggested me to download upgrade software from Roxio. I installed downloaded upgraded firmware and new application. I still could not write CD-RW. Finally I returned the laptop and bought a HP pavilion zt1185. Read more

Great notebook for the budget minded
You have to know what you are getting when you buy this notebook. This is no super computer. It is typically sold with 512mb of RAM (2 256 chips is how I purchased it). However, unless you are gaming, using video applications, music recording or seriously multi-tasking, you don't need more. If you do, it is capable of holding up to 2 gigs. With the 512 I find that pages come up very fast web browsing. I purchased this laptop having just entered into a MBA program. My main uses for it will be word processing and internet surfing. The 80 gig hard drive is plenty for this purpose. I have an IMAC to handle all of my music and more complicated applications. For travel and schoolwork I don't think that this machine can be beat for the price. I purchased it on sale from Office Depot for $599.99. I base my 5 star rating on this price. It's a big bang for the buck. I would not endorse a 5 star for the Amazon price of $929 as I would guess there are better models in that price range. The built in wireless card and efficient AMD Turion processor also add great value. The book is also very light (just over 5 lbs) and it looks beautiful (futuristic silver styling). If I have one gripe it's the battery life. I've found it to be approximately two hours depending on how it's used. But as long as you can plan ahead and bring the adaptor it's a non-issue. ... A Great PC for the Money.
I am as happy as a consumer gets. I had a Dell Inspiron before. Let's put it this way: I won't touch a Dell in a lifetime. This Compaq is so much more ergonomic and slicker (I have V2135, which is this one with Windows XP Pro). While Dell is not serious competition, Sony VAIO is probably the closest rival. Here are some points of comparison between V2140 and the identical VAIO machine (my friend at college who sits next to me has a VAIO):
