1-0 out of 5 stars HP Sucks
HP has the WORST customer service of any company of any kind that I have ever dealt with. I have never called without having spent at least one hour on the phone with them before the various extensions in India, none of whom are helpful. And once the service is complete the computer is usually returned with more problems than they were originally sent with. I would never buy another HP again

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid performance, well worth the money
HP offers many different configurations of the HP dv8000 series. The unit I'm reviewing (dv8235nr) has two 100 GB hard drives, TV tuner, and an Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 GPU. From a performance aspect, this machine is simply amazing. Whether you want to record a TV show to watch later, play graphics-intensive video games, or burn CDs/DVDs...the 8230 can do it all without flinching. I bought this machine mainly for playing video games that most laptops on the market could not handle. Even with all the details and effects set to the highest level, the gameplay experience is very fluid and framerates are stable. With 200 GB of storage space, even I'll be hard-pressed to use half of it and the 1 GB of RAM makes for very smooth multi-tasking. Battery life is decent for a device of this caliber; usually about three hours on a full charge. The TV tuner is very handy and fairly simple to set up, even for a digital cable connection. The 17 inch screen is breathtaking, and really makes the gaming/movie/multimedia experience quite enjoyable. There is only one negative to the dv8230: its big footprint. The large screen and keyboard (yes, it has a dedicated 10-key pad!) take up some space. As you might guess, the machine is heavier than most laptops because of these added features.
5-0 out of 5 stars True Desktop Replacement
This is the best laptop I have ever owned, but only because I do not travel ANYWHERE with it (on purpose). This is my "kitchen computer" where I do all my work when I'm in the house. I can run any of my desktop apps on it including graphics (Adobe etc) apps, connect everything I have including my bluetooth phone and headset, dock and sync my iPod, etc etc.. It handles everything I throw at it. If you use this unit in a mobile fashion on battery power you will hate it for its weight, low battery life etc. But if you use it mainly docked in one place or primarily when it's plugged in, you will have yourself one fine desktop replacement in a compact unit. It's all about buying the right machine for the right purposes... no one machine can do everything. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Prints fine--uses unk quickly
This is my second ink printer for the current HP computer I own and it prints much quicker than the last printer. However, changing the ink every three months is a little often, in my opinion.

4-0 out of 5 stars What a good little printer!
I bought it for $70 and it's never given me any trouble and the photo quality (especially) is surprisingly good. This is a great value in printers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does it all!
I have owned this notebook for 2 months now, and it has performed beautifully. I wanted something that would be an entertainment/work computer all in one, with a decent sized hard drive and no lag time or freezing up when running multiple applications as I had alot of trouble with that with my old Compaq notebook. I can record movies (I boughtan additional tv tuner since this laptop did not have one built in), download video and music on iTunes and surf the web all at the same time. Media Center is a joy, and the lightscribe feature is also great. Bluetooth wireless is a pleasure, and the little remote that comes with the laptop is alot of fun. You can easily watch a movie or listen to music from across the room with the impossibly small remote. I have not experienced any problems with the keyboard buttons, but my solution is simple- ALWAYS purchase a service plan that goes beyond the manufacturer's warranty. I haven't had any problems yet, but I certainly expect to sometime in the next 3 years (par for the course with all electronics IMHO), and for a couple hundred dollars more I am covered. FYI I bought my laptop through Compusa.
2-0 out of 5 stars Great value...typical HP keyboard problem
This is a lot of computer for the money.Fast processor, built-in bluetooth, big hard drive, Lightscribe (which is cool).

1-0 out of 5 stars Keyboard problems
This system has a "chiclet style" keyboard with small plastic shells attached on top of the key mechanisms. On my system, several keytops had a nasty habit of falling off. They are not easy to attach back on the keyboard, and eventually will not attach at all.

For what you'd pay for this Compaq V2555US, you get more than what you'd expect from a value-priced laptop.I bought this system to be used as part of a home business and I'm very glad I did.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Laptop. Let an expert clear soem things up.
This laptop is very good for its price range. The pros far outweigh the cons. The LCD is one of the best I have seen on any laptop including Apple, it is bright, responsive and the image quality is second to none. mainstream application performance is very good, I upgraded from an Athlon XP 1800+ and there is simply no comparison. The laptop is light yet sturdy, battery life is above average and the onboard GPU is excellent for this price range. Contrary to popular belief the Radeon Xpress 200M is very capable of running all modern games with the settings tweaked for performance. Examples I run Need For Speed Underground at Medium resolution with all of the eye candy turned on except for motion blur and it runs smooth as can be, far better than the Radeon 9000 I had in my old laptop, I have successfully played Far Cry, Unreal Tournament 2004, Worlds of Warcraft, Quake 3, Need For Speed Underground 2 and all te EA sports titles.
