This is what I call a budget multimedia computer!!!
This is a great multimedia computer for the person who is on a budget.My Dad got the pentium4 procceser model.Anyway sometimes it works somtimesit wont't beacause the dsl won't connect.Plus his other computer which is a Pentium2 computer is faster than his new oneso his pentium 2 model from HP and my dell computer are the fastest five computers in the house.But now my Dad is trying to fix his p4 computer because partition magic does not want to work.

You get what you pay for... though in this case you get less
This is not a budget conscious machine - HP evidently decided to make up on the price by loading this machine with so much annoying proprietary garbage that the computer constantly is lighting up with my network connection trying to send information about me to HP or someone else who paid for space on my desktop.Given the technical characteristics of the machine, I expected it to be a reasonably fast machine for what my child needs it for - basic web surfing, email, etc. We have several much older machines on our home network, including two with less than half the memory and processor speed, but they are strangely much faster than this nice looking but poorly performing piece of... anyway, I would strongly recommend spending an extra one or two hundred to get a real machine, probably from a real manufacturer.Of the big ticket ($500 or more) items I've bought from HP in the past two years, they're 0 for 3.I don't think there will be a number 4.

Excellent Performance for the Price.
I got my computer over a year ago and have had no problems with it.The HP handles anything I ask it to do.In 2003, like tons of other computer users, I had difficulties with viruses and trojan horses, but, after switching to Mozilla, this problem became a thing of the past and has nothing to do with the PC I now use.I've found that for photography and word files this model is ideal and offers a high rate of speed.I usually have about 10 windows open, 2 Word files, and MSN messenger and yet I never have any difficulties with crashes.Overall, I can't say anything bad about this model and don't plan on getting a new PC for another few years.I don't care what the new ones look like, this one is functional and saved me some cash (and continues to). ... HP Pavilion 763n
I bought this computer in December 19. I ran all the programs and only I have to say is that this computer is a great product is very fast the video card is wonderful and let me talk about the dvd burner is the best faster than cd-rw. I burned 25 audio tracks only in 6 minutes with easy cd creator 5.3 version. One thing that I have to say is that I am happy with this machine and at least I spent my money in a very good product thank you HP.

Great Machine, Nice Price
This machine is loaded! I have a cable modem and consistently get 2 megabit per second download speed. The processor smokes, its got tons of RAM and the graphics card is adequate if not supreme. I run 3D games (GTA III) w/ no problems save the slightest glitch here and there. The 80GB hard drive is ample but at 5400 RPM its the one component that could be faster (HP kind of burys that spec). If you do start running out of space you can back up mountains of data with the DVD burner. Very happy HP owner.....
Tired of worrying if you purchased the wrong product. This HP will not disappoint you. I have own it now since Oct. 14th and I'm very happy. Take a few minutes to visit the support sites before adding software titles so you don't have compatibility problems. I've added all my software programs and files with the hardware they provide you with to transfer everything over with a blink of the eye. I also recommend you purchase the Viewsonic flat panel screen VX900 a little expensive, but worth the money and it includes a 3 year warranty. ... Read more

Cheap and dependable
I don't know about that other guy (who's on his 3rd one), but I've had the 501n since April of 2002 and so far, I have had 1 system breakdown, which was from user error. As for music downloads, 1.8 gigs of my HD are taken up by music and I have had no trouble. I was disappointed by the low processor speed of 1.2 GHz. I previously owned a mid-priced 1998 IBM with a 2.0 GHz processor. You would think the speed on my 2002 501n would be better! This computer is a nightmare
