5-0 out of 5 stars Windows, watch out!
I was a Mac user until 1998, when it appeared Apple was as done as three-month old bread. I gave up hope and went with Windows, fought through 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP (never bothered with Millennium), and pretty much considered defeat.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not just overseas Junk. High Quality Overseas stuff.
Anyone who know me by my Real Name, knows I'm a long time supporter of the Redmond Campus.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous machine
First let me respond to G. Crain (Houston). My Mom is 79 years old and loves her new iMac 20" Dual Core. She's not computer savvy but is able to do the basics quite well...even after a mini-stroke!Sorry you had problems.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great product if you're the right buyer
Before i tell you what the iMac 17" is, let me tell you what it's not.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic value for a desktop machine
My kids love these (we own two) because it can runs Windows and they can play PC games. I've never seen Windows run faster.
1-0 out of 5 stars I will not purchase another Apple product in a very long time
The product is fine, but Apple probably has the worst customer support I have ever experienced.Their amount of topics on their on-line support is not broad enough. It is only helpful if you have very simple problems (like if you're having problems ejecting a CD from your drive), but for more complicated problems the on-line support is completely useless.Their phone support is even worse.I waited on the phone for 45 minutes to talk to a customer support person so he can tell me he would only help me if I paid more money.Next time I'll buy a PC with Dell or Gateway.Like I wrote, the product is fine, but part of the reason for choosing a particular PC is for customer support.Because I believe Apple's customer support to be horrid, I will not be purchasing another Apple product for a very long time. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Overheating problems
I only use this computer because I have to at work - It's practically useless due to overheating problems. A computer should be able to burn a cd without overheating to the point of freezing up.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT computer
I absolutely loved this computer. It has alot of extras, if easy to use, and looks great, too. The only problem is that it's a Mac and none of my programs would work on it. No stores sell things for it (they have to be special ordered). And all software for it has to be Mac software. But if you use Apple already you will love this computer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!
This was an upgrade from a 2001 G4, which served me well, but was ready to be put to MacPasture. I LOVE the G5 iMac. I'm not a super techy girl, but I know what I like, and this works well. I run a lot of heavy programs on it, i.e. InDesign, Finale, Garage, etc. and it takes it like a man, a giant man who can eat a lot and then go swimming, without having to wait an hour first. Yeah. Anyway, the screen is clear and beautiful, it's extremely quiet, and I have had no overheating problems that I heard so much about prior to buying it.

When i first bought this beatiful imac, i was in awe. it starts up very fast, some people say 700 mhz is too slow, but thats comparing the same mhz with intel!! Power PC makes this proccesor in a totally diffferent way! everything about it is great: the programs, the hardware & its beautiful!!5-0 out of 5 stars Get this Machine
I'm a university professor and have long been familiar with Macs, which are growing in popularity in my department. Though I was currently using a Dell machine at work, I decided to make this iMac my new home machine. My uses are primarily professional: very heavy office work, making CD's, working with thousands of digital photographs, creating websites, and doing some design work. I can honestly say that in every way that matters, the iMac surpasses (and sometimes greatly surpasses) the other computers I have used.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars No good for games
I bought my iMac just a few months ago with the expectation that I would get a few good years of use out of it.Instead with the very first game I installed (Warcraft Reign Of Chaos) I found I couldn't run it a the top quality settings.Oh the game will run, but I found the best I could get out of Allied Assault was vastly inferior to what my friends could get out of their PCs.It was embarrasing. It appears that the problem is not the CPU speed, but the graphics. This iMac comes with built in nVIDIA GeForce2 MX video card. This card does not support all of the latest video standard. To get that you have to get a computer with a new ATI or nVIDIA graphics cards.Apple sells systems like this, but they cost twice as much as this computer. Now the insulting part is that the new graphics cards only cost about fifty bucks more!Apple could easily put better graphics in this iMac, but then it would be as good it's more expensive offerings.Other than that I have enjoyed my system.I find it works great for ripping MP3s and surfing the web.It just burns me up that the day it arrived at my house it was unable to run at least one new game at the top settings. Was that too much to ask?Now I just have years of even worse gaming performance to look forward too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Time to switch to mac
OK once I saw this computer I knew it was time to switch over to the mac world.this machine is a workof art it is so nice to look at,takes up little space, great flat screen display best I have seen, and is quite fast.I love this and will never go back.My pants off to Apple for making this!

4-0 out of 5 stars Mac or IBM Compatable?
That is the question.I think the answer depends on what you want to do with a computer.I have an old Compaq Lap top with Window 98 with Celron 400 or something. It is slow. But I only use it for word processing and surfing the web.But my lap top crashes a lot.I had to re-format the entire hard drive 6 times, and I had the lap top for 3 years.I bought an iMac in Jan 2003.I don't know how fast my iMac is compared to an IBM Compatable.I love this machine.Of course, I had to get use to the new operating system. But it didn't take me that long. After all, it is very similar to Window XP (or is Windows XP very similar to Mac OS X?).Any way, it does everything I ask it to do, including surfing the web, converting CD to MP3s, and downloading and printing digital photos.I bought the Window Office for Mac OS X.I can tranfer my documents (word, excel, powerpoint, etc) to and from others who own Windows operating systems without a single problem.I don't really play games on my computer (I have a Playstation 2 for that), and I don't do CAD or other engineering/drafting tasks. So if you are like me-MP3's, digital photography, email/web surfing, typing/creating documents, other "regular" stuff, I would definately recommend an iMac.I love the monitor and the computer does not crash.I think of an apple computer as having a BMW car.It is more pricey, not common (they don't make as many as GM does), and hard to find parts for it.But it is very reliable. So if you are going to use a computer, why not an iMac?I switched!!Because I appreciate the fact a company went beyond functionality.Wouldn't you rather drive a Mercedes Benz or an BMW?Only reason I am give it a 4 star is that NO COMPUTER IS PERFECT!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars iMac is solid again
The new iMacs offer a stylish choice of desktop computer. They are much faster than the old color iMacs. The LCD Monitor is sharp and crisp with a wide viewing angle. Like all Macs, it is easy to use, and the operating system crashes far far less than any PC system out there (I use PCs at work, trust me). OSX is a bonus as well, a good operating system, but you can still run older (classic) programs. The iMac has been poo-pooed by some "power users" as being cliche. Trust me, you can be a power user on one of these. It's faster than most users will ever need, has plenty of RAM and hard drive, and is easily upgradable. My only quibble is the sound - I recommend the inexpensive external speakers if you listen to music or play games. I also have not found a convenient way to input music from my stereo into the iMac (no Microphone jack) to record my old LPs onto CD. Still, worthy of a 5 star, as I am sure the sound input problem will be solvable through the USB port or some other technique in the near future.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed with the IMAC
We purchased an IMAC for it's supposed amazing digital photo and DVD capabilities. We were very disappointed.iPhoto has crashed twice. We have lost entire folders of photos.Simple children's games screwed up settings and contiminated preference lists. It has never been the same after a simple upgrade.Would not recommend this one to anyone. ... Affordable and versatile, the iMac desktop is a great choice for thoseseeking an entry-level Mac that performs most everyday tasks admirably. 5-0 out of 5 stars User friendly and virus free, now with faster processor
Apple is, quite simply, the best and most innovative computer manufacturer. A recent article in Consumer Reports identified Apple computers as the most reliable computers and PC Magazine user surveys have reached the same conclusion. Furthermore, Apple computers -- including this new, more powerful eMac -- are impervious to the viruses which regularly plague Windows-based PCs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Great!
Not only is it great looking... it works great too!Painless switch from Windows...Haven't needed to purchase any addition software becuase the bundled software does everything...And it is super cool looking!

5-0 out of 5 stars Praise from a new mac convert
It's been a little over a month since I bought this machine, and I'm only kicking myself for having kept my feet in the Gatesian concrete for so long before. The machine itself is brilliant in its design, look, and efficiency. I picked it up at an apple store in NYC, and didn't ask for any upgrades since I wanted to take it right home from there. However, I would recommend those who can spend $50 more to opt for 512MB of RAM rather than the standard 256, although it runs quite well on the latter. The graphics, for which apple is so famous, are everything they're cracked up to be and then some. The mac browser, on which I'm writing now, safari, is a cut above IE for speed, design, and interface. What truly distinguises the mac, however, is how it does more with small packages: OS X is about half the size of windows xp, and runs more efficiently and with more ease and sensitivity to what users really want to do with a computer. I've spent some 15 years with my head under the hood of Mr. Gates' dirty windows, and although I learned a ton of information and made myself look pretty smart at work in the process, it was dreary constantly having to work around or fix the bugs that the skinny billionaire could have easily taken out himself before he sold me his OS. For windows users who are looking at this with the same question in their minds as I had: "is it worth it, after all these years, moving to a completely new platform" the answer is yes, it is more than worth it, if you're willing to make a few comparatively minor sacrifices. Obviously, (unless you want to keep a windows PC on the side) software will have to be replaced or trashed--don't worry, the proprietary productivity software sold with these macs, called appleworks (which I believe is a reworking of the old Clarisworks), is extremely functional and versatile, and the way windows software is constantly being ramped up, a gradual transition won't be that much of an additional expense, in exchange for the beauties of working on a platform like OS X. One caveat about hardware, however: you will have to consider the possibility of replacing your peripherals: I had to set aside my HP Officejet R40 and buy a comparable all-in-one device that's compatible with the mac and uses USB cables rather than the parallel port (it was only $200, so it's not a back-breaker). If you can handle those passing challenges, you are not likely to look back ever again to the PC: the imac in particular, is a stroke of design genius, and OS X is the only computing environment I can ever claim to have actually enjoyed looking at and working with. Finally, if you're what they call a "power user" (i.e., you like to have the fastest and most loaded machine on the market when you buy), you may wish to wait for the vaunted G5 to appear (I think they're actually taking orders for it now). But the 1GHz G4 is a powerful enough machine to do everything that a PC is capable of, with as much speed and far more grace and balance than any PC I've owned can claim. And if the $2,000 price tag of an imac is rather too much for you, consider the emac, which starts at well under a thousand but uses the old CRT. In any event, you won't go wrong with the mac, and if you're like me, you'll only be wondering what took you so long.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nearly Perfect...
I have had this computer for nearly 6 months (since March) and I have been very happy with it.I have added additional memory and have recently expanded the hard drive with the addition of an external 160 gig 7200 rpm drive.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best computer I have ever had
I have had this computer for 7 months and I still think it is the best purchase I have ever made.It is beautiful, efficient, and FAST!Never has the computer "locked up" on me, crashed, given me cryptic error messages, or taken more than a few seconds to open a file. My ONLY wish is for a two button mouse, as I still have to work on a clunky Dell at the office, I have never fully adapted to the one button mouse. This is a good, quality product that will last years.I purchased a video iPod shortly afterwards and I just love how the two products work together seamlessly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for techno geeks
The iMac G5 is an excellent computer for both the novice and the techno geek. Their ads are not just hype. It really is out of the box easy to use and with the assortment of usable software that comes with the G5, it will meets the needs of most users. The iPhoto combined with my digital camera is great. A zippy dependable machine that doesn't require constant updates, patches, and restarts. I use both PCs and Macs but this is the computer I chose for my home. My iMac is a useful tool rather than a time draining frustration.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was there from the beginning...
I have owned many Apple products starting with the Apple //e. I have owned an Apple //c as well. My Macintosh products include the original 1984, 128K Mac, 512K Mac, Mac SE30, Mac Quadra 700, Mac Centris 610, Mac Color Classic, two versions of the G3 iBook, iMac DV, iMac that looks like a Luxo lamp, and the iMac G5. Do I know Macs? Well, not as well as some, but better than most. The iMac G5 is not my favorite. The Luxo lamp G4 iMac is a nicer form factor and I am sorry Apple abandoned it. However, that said, the G5 iMac is awesome. It is fast and its footprint is small. The sound is weak but nothing a nice set of inexpensive speakers will not solve. However, out of the box, the iMac G5 is wonderful.

5-0 out of 5 stars MACTABULOUS!!!
For all those people who are concerned about space restrictions and want a powerhouse computer that will not need a large footprint, the Mac Mini is the perfect solution.Packing a boatload of power into a computer yay bigger than a coaster, there is no better power/space combination in the entire computing world!
4-0 out of 5 stars Great form factor for a good price
It's funny how Apple offers a low price computer and everyone feels it should be faster and more full-featured than it is but similarly-priced PCs seem not to carry such expectations.
5-0 out of 5 stars An extremely well built little piece of technology with a few weak points...
Well, first of all let me say that the mini is a relatively large amount of power packaged in very little space. Everything is extremely easy to install and if you get the wireless mouse and keyboard you will be saving a USB port, which is always a good thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine
I purchased my I mac g5 back in October. It has been working way better than my HP. I have upgraded mine to a GB of ram. It is really fast. No problams. My only complaint is how loud it is. I don't know if that goes for just me or everyone. But overall this is a great computer. The all in one feature is nice, because i don't have to have all of the extra cords. I am switching over to mac now. Way better then windows. I never have to worry about viruses or firewalls.

4-0 out of 5 stars iMac Wonder
This is probably the best computer for Apple users who want a low priced all-in-one package. This computer is a wonder!I have no idea how I would have managed all my documents, games, and images on something else. Some of the things that I would highlight about this computer:
4-0 out of 5 stars Almost No Problems
I bought this computer last summer to replace a windows PC, and am very happy with this purchase. It boots quickly, processes quickly, and I've only had one crash, which was solved by simply pressing the power button.

Editorial Review

Unlike most desktop computer manufacturers, Apple likes to keep its lineup refreshingly simple. Even its most revolutionary computer of recent years, the iMac, exists currently in only two separate iterations. This model, the iMac Desktop 15" M9105LL/A, offers the same sleek, space-efficient design and strong esthetic appeal of its more capable sibling, the iMac Desktop 17" M8935LL/A, but with a little less power and a more friendly price point.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A spunky little computer
Our company is based in Japan, so we love using the small iMacs as terminals in our too-small stock room. They are prefect, very fast, connect to anything we need them to, and have all the features you expect of a Mac. The 15" model is great for people who need a compact machine that moves out of the way immediately, and the screen is also great for anyone with less than perfect vision (like me) since you can move the screen right up close to your face. Try doing that with a CRT. All in all, I love the current generation of iMacs to death.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good bye PC's
For years I have dealt with PC's.The freezing up at inappropriate moments, the noise, how they often lag. With some nudging from my girl friend and mother who both have used Macs extensively, I looked into them, and purchased the iMac,, and I have never been so happy using a computer. It used to be a major headache just to open attachments on an e-mail, often times ending in a colorful proliferation of four letter words being bandied about. But with the iMac, the most simple things are just that simple.Sure there may be some drawbacks such as a couple of web sites have glitches when viewing, but the bottom line is that does not matter.2-0 out of 5 stars HASN'T THE INTUITIVE EASE OF OPERATION OF PREVIOUS MACS
It pains me to rate my iMac so low because I have been a Mac booster for many years, after converting from a PC. I will say up front that I am not a computer nerd and need something simple that I can operate without reading a lot of books or going to school. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars still amazed
I was able to pick one of these up a year ago- one of the last ones Apple had as the G5 had already been out.
5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable Machine
I have the 1GHz model from early 2003, but it is very similar. This is a machine that has not let me down. Although OS X took some getting used to after using the old OS since 1989 and was a bit frustrating to learn, I came to appreciate its Unix core. The latest model should come with iMovie 4, which is a great movie making program (sure beats Vegas and iMovie 3, which was a bad joke). I do recommend Office X and Virtual PC for compatibility reasons when you buy an iMac--plus Office X beats AppleWorks for word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation (although not for object-oriented drawing). This is also a good system for developing programs, using a scanner (iPhoto is a nice complement), working with audio (the 2003 model had SoundStudio but I don't think the new ones do), and burning CDs and DVDs. It's a big investment but it will be able to run new software for quite some time. This model is gone now but the G5 should be just as good plus faster.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended.
This is the most innovative computer in it's class. Macintosh computers are very user friendly: easy to set up and use and (unlike most PCs) seldom crash or malfunction. It has an adjustable flat-panel displays with exceptionally bright, sharp images. The processor speed is really great. This new iMac is a terrific computer at a quite reasonable price. Highly recommended. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I like mine but I know I paid too much
I am pretty used to the MacOs so I stuck with it when I decided to buy a new computer. However comparing what I got to a Windows PC didn't make me feel good. For 1/2 the price you can buy a PC with the same features, flat screen and speed. So I paid over 500 more for the privilege of using the MacOS.If I knew how to use Windows I would have switched.I was pretty steamed.

5-0 out of 5 stars World-class computing
It's such a pleasure to work in OS X, especially on such a beauty as my iMac. I dread having to test our sites on our PC--what a messthat poor thing is. Even our Linux technical administrator hates the PC, and is converting to the Mac.5-0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful Apple product
Why in the world would anyone want the hassle of Windoze when you can have an art piece like this?I guess some people like self abuse.A truly wonderful computer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality computer
I purchased this model recently as my first Apple computer. Coming from a Unix background, the initial experience is a bit of a mixed bag. Some things are highly annoying, for example, not only is gcc, an absolutely essential piece of unix software, not available at install time, but it is a massive chore to even get on the system, and in the end you have little choice but to install Apple's Xcode tools.
5-0 out of 5 stars iMac G5 - 17 in. BEST VALUE
I bought my iMac G5 3 weeks ago, not from Amazon; but from the Apple Store (Refurbished for $999). This was absolutely the best value I couldve gotten: especially since because of recent iPod purchases, I got a $100 eCoupon. (You should definately try requesting one).
