SONY VAIO AR Series ROCKS!
I have my VAIO for three months and It works very good. The big screen it's the best and the design of the notebook it's the best. I used to make multimedia content and develop systems. The user experiencie is awesome... because you have a lot of space to work and multitasking work. About the heat, It's not a problem, I work a lot of hours with no problems, well only when you put a CD/DVD it makes a lot of noise, but that is because the quality of the disc.
Sony is fine. Their screens are the best.And, none of mine have ever broken down.
I have always had Sony laptops and been very happy with them. Their screen is better than anything else I have looked at in the local computer stores. My latest laptop is still working fine after 4 years of daily use! Yes, Sony laptops have had problems with running hot. But, they are fine as long as you keep the airway clear of dust.

LCD screen died / Bad Customer support
Just before a couple of months after purchase the LCD screen died; now I have to ship the computer to Sony and wait until they send it back, which means I'll have no computer for a couple of weeks.Had a couple of other problems with a printer and my digital camera, called sony support and it was really bad, didn't solve my problem after 2 hours on the phone and their only brilliant solution was telling me to re-install windows.

Well, I have had this a couple of months and it has not had obvious hardware failure, except the Cingular wireless antenna falling off immediately out of the box. The salesman told me that the loose fit is intentional. Um! But I don't care as I do not use it. Read more

Good notebook
I have found this notebook to be great, excellent display with the xbrite screen.Only one drawback you must create your own recovery cd.Sony, all your competitors supply recovery cds with their notebooks.

Just Pray you Never Need Warranty Service!
Consumers, be careful. I purchased my Sony VAIO VGNFE550G less than six months ago at Circuit City in Birmingham, Alabama.This product worked fine until a few days ago.Then, suddenly, the cd drive wouldn't read a disk. Called tech support and they advised me that I would have to perform a system recovery before they would even consider replacing drive! They want me to completely wipe my system, because they don't want to spend money on a new drive.I refused, and they agreed to overnight a
Excellent Choice I made
I bought this laptop not long ago in March, If I can recall. It's a fantastic laptop and I have to say, I spent my money well on it. It comes with the Intel Duo Core Processor for multi-tasking which is a great thing, but if you're a gamer like me, beware that this is not the best. I suggest you getting the other laptop by Sony that lets you change the video chip. The hard drive holds 100gb of data, which is a good thing, but I find that it's not enough as I have a lot of songs and movies on it. The processor's speed is great! It runs smoothly. When you power on your laptop, the intro/logo appearance screen tends to take awhile to load before proceeding to the Windows XP screen. I don't know why its taking that long since my other sony vaio laptop, that is a centrino that doesn't have the duo core, pass that screen really quick. I guess that's the only bad thing that I don't like. The screen is 15 inch, which is pretty good with the brightness of the screen its giving. Before you do anything else on the laptop when you first buy it, I suggest making a recovery disk using the recovery wizard since Sony doesn't package a pre-made disc. Awesome laptop, and I got it free!
This colorful VAIO is way too cool ! It is very slim and lightweight, while providing the processing and storage power you need for multimedia. The built-in webcam is a nice bonus. Not a bad laptop
I bought this notebook from a brick store as an emergency replacment after my brand new FS742 was stolen a week before I had to leave for South Africa. I have used this extensively for the last 2 months and am generally satisfied with it, except for one incident. A week into my trip, the DVD drive hung up and there was no way for me to re-boot the notebook. So I ended up holding the power button for a short while after which the notebook started asking for a bios level password (which I had never set) and stopped loading Windows. Extended web searches did not yield any help and I ended up taking this to Sony Support, South Africa which fortunately was close to where I was living.

Don't buy this Vaio
Unless you do not want any support that approaches anything remotely reasonable.
Simply awesome.
I have owned multiple laptops over the years and this is by the far the best. This Laptop is a powerhouse, starting with its 17" screen which makes any web page, video, or game look fantastic. The finger print sensor makes logging onto the computer and websites so much easier than having to type your passwords in. We played with this for an hour trying to get it to log in with somebody else's fingerprint but it never did. The fan does run alot but I hardly notice it, but it does push alot of heat out of the unit. It handles all my CCIE and CCNP simulators no problem not to mention games. I have had one problem with, the power control unit died but with one call to customer service they had a box delivered the same day with overnight shipping to repair it at no charge to me, I work with all types of computers every day and I know stuff happens so no big deal. So if you like having the power to run any program that you have and super high quality graphics then I highly recommend this product.

I love this notebook!
I currently own 3 laptops (wife, work and kids) and sold recently my VAIO PCG-K23. This laptop is by far the best that I have ever owned. I work in the same office space with the coleague that I sold my K23 and we don't hear the fan at all. It is really very quiet. In fact is as quiet as the other laptop. It takes a lot of time to boot up but not as long as others that I had. Depends on all the software that you have.
