2-0 out of 5 stars Sony support awful
Since I bought this notebook I am in trouble. The computer is slow and two months later the LCD screen did not worked. I claim for repair under warranty to Sony and I had to ship the computer to San Diego,California paying all shipment expenses. They knew what the problem with the LCD was before they received and now they do not want to repair it under the warranty. What kind of computer is this, that I bought it in September as a new model and now is discontinued.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome computer
This thing put me in the hole 2500 bucks with insurance, but id have to say it was worth it. One thing that is very underated on this computer is the sound is soooooo goood. Its a lap top with 3d sound. I dont even have my regular speakers hooked up. Also, its super rugged. I bring it everywhere, And i sereously abuse electronics, I brought it to florada once, and after that it broke down on me, so I just brought it were i bought it and got a new one, yea really good buy, wish it had a dvd burner though, well when this gets old, i'll bring it in for a new one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't deserve one star.
Computer worked fine for 6 months. After that computer began shutting down unexpectedly. We found out that this was an issue with an overheating CPU.Sony has not been helpful, we sent the computer to get fixed by them. When they sent it back the computer worked fine for another 2 months. This has been the worst experience with a laptop that I've ever had from a hardware point of view and from the service that we have received from Sony. You pay extra dollars for a recognizable brand only to get the quality of a cheap brand.
1-0 out of 5 stars One star - but only because there is no choice for less
I agree with the first reviews. Never buy Sony Vaio notebooks.
1-0 out of 5 stars Worst experience with a computer I've ever had
Overheats and shuts down all the time, to the point where I can't even use it. DVD player doesn't work (could be related to the overheating problem).

Sporting fewer amenities than Sony's high-end mobile computers, yet easily robust enough to run most professional and entertainment software, the Vaio FXA59 notebook strikes a good balance between price and performance. Its convenient all-in-one design also makes it a great choice for those who appreciate true portability.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars good for ordinary use
I bought this type laptop two months ago, most time it works good, but I found it has a very annoyed problem. If you watch DVD or listen to music and use Internet at the same time, internet can be very often disconnected automatically, sometime, machine even crashes. Actually I changed my machine, but this second machine has the same problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too fast long battery life!
Sony has very good cosumer support.4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Overall Performance
First, the downside - the mouse can be flakey.Sometimes it acts as if the left side key is stuck.Other times, you have to tap it ten times to get it to react.Other that that, the only problem we've had has been that some DVD's latch up the WIN/DVD software.Read more

For those who settle for nothing but state-of-the-art performance, Sony offers the fully loaded Vaio GRV680 notebook. Measuring 1.8 by 14 by 11.8 inches and tipping the scales at 8.1 pounds (with one battery) or 8.7 pounds (with battery and optical drive), the Vaio GRV680 isn’t the smallest notebook on the market. But it is one of the fastest and certainly one of the most versatile.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars SONY Laptops are Terrible And OVer Priced
I buy a new laptop every year, I use and rely on them heavily, after 3 sony laptops I will never buy another. The first one from 2002 stillw works, they other two died. The GRV 680 has major design flaws, It over heats, the memory sockets break requiring resolder and the power plug breaks loose from the motherboard. Its 2500 bucks down the toilet. I tooke a HUGE chance and bought an ACER 1812. I have been very happy, its was more powerful and reliable for half the price working on its 2nd year. Ps, Sony has no word for "service"

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, when fixed.
I had this laptop for a little more than 3 years now and at first it was great, worked great was awesome, and then 2 years ago it overheats and shuts down, I called Sony, the warranty was out, it would cost 400 bucks to ship it get the fan fixed and ship it back. Luckily, I went overseas to Jordan and took it with me. They replaced the fan and now it works like a charm.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality and design across the board
I bought this laptop three years ago in a major hurry (as in, get in there, grab a fast laptop with a huge screen & a ton of memory, and go...all within about 15 minutes tops). In my haste I also bought an extended warranty, as this big, heavy beast was over $3000 with maxed out peripherals (1 Gb ram)).

Part of Sony’s high-end GRX series of notebooks, the GRX650 offers a smaller hard drive, marginally slower processing speed, and no DVD recording capability, but is otherwise identical to the top-of-the-line GRX690. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Notebook for today!!!
I just purchased this Sony Vaio PCG-GR370 about 3 weeks ago, and everything is really great. This model is nice when you see or compare with other brand styles such as Compaq, Dell, or so on. Also, I upgraded memory to 512MB that makes me satisfied with its speed when I am running many programs in the same time. LCD is clear when you watch DVD or playing the Game. If you are looking for the portable laptop, this is the one of your choice for today and long terms.

5-0 out of 5 stars WONDERFULL ??
This Vaio , my first notebook that it was bougth six weeks ago , has great performance (PIII ,1.1 Ghz, 30 HD ,etc.), nice design with 3 USB ports. 4-0 out of 5 stars "EXCELLENT MACHINE , BIT HEAVY".
I HAVE BEEN USING THE NOTEBOOK FOR ABOUT THREE MONTHS AND FOUND IT TO BE 'EXCELLENT' IN TERMS OF ITS OUTPUT.SONY COULD HAVE ADDED THE 'FLOPPY DRIVE' OR THE 'WIRELESS CONNECTION',THE BATTERY LID IS BIT LOOSE, BUT ANYWAY UPTILL NOW IT'S MONEY'S WORTH.OVERALL GOOD BLENDING OF' DESIGN' AND 'SOFTWARE'COLLECTIONS PRE-INSTALLED BY 'SONY'. ... This notebook is suited for both business and entertainment purposes, and makes a nice desktop-replacement machine. Its price is about average for notebooks as a whole, and higher than average among similarly rated products. Some of the features we like are its 1 GHz Pentium III chip, 256 MB of memory (expandable to 512 MB), 15-inch, 1,024 x 768 resolution active-matrix display, and a CD-RW drive. The system also comes with a 20 GB hard disk, 56K modem, and 10/100 Mbps Ethernet network card. Windows XP Home Edition, which combines the stability of Windows 2000 with better support for peripherals and games plus a new user interface, comes installed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money
Many people tried to steer me away from this machine because of Windows XP, and because of the service convenience that comes with other top price brands. I went with this one anyways and could not be happier. It has more bells and whistles than I have been able to figure out yet, and performs like a champ.Very, very satisfied!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great investment!!!!
This sony computer is, in my personal opinion, a great investment, because it contains a great power, considering it is a laptop, and it's not that heavy comparing it with other computers having that power. If you are interesting in buying this computer just for fun, it is great, also for business and for home usage. It's one of the best out in the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value for a portable workstation
This is a pretty good deal, for the features. I also think that Sony is providing good leadership in design issues and ergonomics, drawing on their expertise in the consumer retail market. This computer has a lot of features, decent performance, and a nice display. I first got the FXA36, with the Athlon chip, and I must admit that it had slightly better performance than the PIII chip, and much more sophisticated graphics controller, however, I also had some weird problems like hard crashes trying to open a corrupted file. From my point of view there is no justification for a hard crash ever occuring. I swapped for the PIII version, the FX370, and have had no problems whatsoever. Some people seem to prefer Win2k over XP, but for me, personally, XP is just like NT with a new GUI shell, and I immediately switched back to the "classic" look and feel and it seems very much like what I am accustomed to. The performance of XP seems fairly mature, at least on the PIII. The DVD performance has been good, especially for an XGA display. I have heard bad things about Sony support, but I bought an extended warranty, so I am not worried about it. Other Sony products I have owned have all been rock solid. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best laptop yet
I don't know why everyone is complaining about this laptop. It is by far the best laptop I have owned yet out of Compaq, HP, and IBM.This is not a gaming laptop by any means, but you DON'T buy a laptop for gaming. This laptop is designed for work/college use and it hasn't done me wrong yet.Granted I replaced Windows XP with 2000, it has great performance.I have never had this laptop crash, I have never had noise issues. The only thing about it is that if you let it on your lap for 2 hours, it can get mighty toasty. So to the point - You don't buy a laptop for gaming! You buy a desktop with power for that. This laptop has great graphics and speed.I highly recommend any sony vaio!

2-0 out of 5 stars One headache after another...
I bought this computer one year ago and have lost an unacceptable amount of time trying to fix its many problems. First, VAIOs are known for having DVD sound problems. Mine was no exception. Second, this VAIO does not operate properly with many common programs, especially Adobe Photoshop(it shuts itself off in the middle of work). Third, the battery life is so low as to be an embarrassment. Fourth problem with the VAIO = NOT ENOUGH MEMORY - thinking I wouldn't need more than a 20 gig hardrive was a big mistake! Shop around for your next laptop and DON'T buy a Sony VAIO. You will be sorry.

4-0 out of 5 stars Does more than the competition.
I read of peoples problems with other brands of computers all of the time. I personally love my PCG-FXA63 Vaio and would recommend it to anyone. The only problems I have had were from human error(mine). The only drawback of this system is hard drive space, but that can be replaced easily enough.Read more

If you crave the ultimate in computing portability, Sony's SRX77/N notebook may very well be the answer. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great 'Mobile Desktop'!
To bad Sony doesn't make available the 'Sony VAIO GRV670',really nice machine, was made to compete with the regular 'Desktop'. The 'GRV670' is like a 'German Panzer Tank',just rolls right through any 3-D game like 'Shogun: Total War' and 'Medieval: Total War'. Was thinking about a 'Dell' or 'Gateway',but heard the negative reviews, and stuck to 'Sony',fan is quiet, and at worst just gets warm, where as other 'laptops' get hot like a skillet, fry bacon and eggs. Have loaded both 'Shogun: Total War' and 'Medieval: Total War' games on 'Sony VAIO GRV670',works like a charm. I got this 'Sony Vaio GRV670' to do one thing, play 'shogun' and 'medieval',it performs 101%,no crashing,no freeze-ups,no problems period. I'm happy, and completely satisfied, thank you 'Sony'........

2-0 out of 5 stars Hung Out To Dry
I am an NCO in the US Army and am currently deployed to Kosovo.I purchased a Sony VAIO GRV670 notebook to write counseling's and awards for my soldiers; I also use it for recreational purposes, ie. games. My computer was running great for just over a month before I encountered problems with my display while trying to run the same 3D games that I had been playing all along. The problem got progressively worse as time went on.I have contacted Sony in regards to the problem and have done practically everything to resolve the issue but to no avail.Sony tells me that the computer is only guaranteed to run the software that comes with the computer and that they will do nothing for me.To their benefit, none of their software requires 3D or is particularly demanding on the video card; therefore it runs their simple programs just fine.So now I am stuck with a not completely functional computer, or rather, an overpriced word processor. ...
