Nice Try, Absolutely Dismal Execution
It looks great. But looks only get you so far.The C1 has simply been my worst PC investment ever. What they don't tell you about this notebook

The package arrived with an external cd rom machine...2. I will agree on HD space & battery.The lockup issue can be fixed by a BIOS update, I had the same problem.It took to 18 months before I updated the BIOS, I did not know there a fix.

Terrible cooling systems
My Sony laptop suddently stopped working. One of its fans was died. It will cost me from 69 bucks to 300 bucks to remove it. Don't buy Sony laptops.

Sony VIAO GRX laptops have bad mother boards
My Sony GRX died one month after the warranty ended.It boots up, then dies as soon as it warms up (about 30s after bootup).

5 year old wonder
I've had this computer since Dec. 2001.You name it - I've done it to this computer.Dropped on an asphalt street several times, taken on several tours with me in the Navy and even helped me meet my current spouse online.
Best laptop i've ever owned.
most who attempt to write reviews do not have time on thier side. i have had a hard drive,two CD-roms,and a power card fail on this machine. after calling sony and getting either the parts or service done,i found that i always had the machine back within a week. for three years this computer has served me like a good horse,faithfully and unquestioningly,thru three schools,two states,and one international trip. however,i find sony's tech support site a runaround. call phone support,fedex it to sony,and they'll have it back PDQ.

Do not buy this machine.Spend the money and buy a GR.
The FXA series suffers many problems that almost require a website to build some solidarity amongst users it has been burdened with.You may wonder how I know the things below.Well having had two models of the FXA series you can find the problems pretty quickly.Read more

R505EL is all good
I did my homework before I bought my first "lap top". I am very happy with the Sony R505EL. I bring and use it at the hospital everyday. SONY is sooo bad, why is anyone buing them??
I have a sony pcg-fx300p, I have had problems with this laptop since the first day I opened the box. You should also know that I have previously bought two (2) other computers from sony. Well my experience with Sony is that their products are only and nothing else but complete fluff. They brake, they malfunction, the support is terrible, yes they are nice on the telephone and will send you a box just like IBM, but their tech department will return the machine to you with no corrections but a mere reinstalation of the OS. I have been using laptops for the best part of the past 5 years or so. I have owned 1 Gericom - a high quality German brand - and 2 Compaqs which I wouldn't really recommend because my experience has indicated very low reliability. I have been using on and off several other brands especially Toshiba, HP and IBMs. Apart from IBMs which seem very high quality but way overpriced for what you are getting Sony is by far the best.

Innovative
The multipurpose bay is really useful. If you don't consider weight an important factor then this is probably an appropriate choice for you, as it is powerful and versatile. I did encounter a few problems during the first few days, but the support that backs the laptop is very helpful and so far the laptop is doing fine now. If you are looking for a mobile wireless peripherial, this is perfect because it has a mobile pentium four processor and integrated 802.11b wireless so you don't need to buy a card. I love being able to access the internet anywhere in the house without any cables. All in all I rate this laptop four and a half stars, great graphics too!
