Designed for the budget-oriented consumer, Gateway's remanufactured M520CS notebook PC packs a fair number of features into a convenient package. The laptop looks a bit unusual, as its 15-inch display is housed in a frame designed to hold a widescreen monitor--the typical display size of M520 series PCs. Gateway opted instead to install a standard screen with a 1024 x 768 resolution to make the unit more affordable. Internally, the computer is equipped with a high-powered 2.53 GHz Intel Celeron D processor with 256 MB of DDR memory. Nice laptop
I got this laptop as a replacement for my last laptop, which cost too much to fix.I hesitated, because it was a Gateway.I have not been disappointed yet.The screen is beautiful.The hard drive is big and offers plenty of storage space.It comes with an ATI graphics card, integrated, and it uses system memory, but a very good card nonetheless.

Boo-yah!This laptop is extraordinary for all of your computing needs.Listen, I'm on the go constantly, and whether it be for work or for pleasure, my new Gateway Notebook PC is my rock--my foundation.I use it for EVERYTHING.I must have the little fella on about fourteen to fifteen hours a day.I'm no computer expert, but here is some of the key criteria by which I feel comfortable grading it:
Big, Bright, some flaws
It's big, its heavy, but it is a great inexpensive machine for media in a laptop form factor. Four USB2 ports, a Firewire port, Ethernet, Wireless G nicely integrated. Nice big bright screen. Includes Windows Media Center -- I got a Hauppauge USB TV Tuner working well with it. My biggest complaint is the placement of the audio in and out jacks -- in the back of the machine, when the front or side would be much more convenient. Got mine on sale for $800, so shop around. Max the memory and stick in a 100GB drive and you're set.

Best Laptop Ever
I have the same laptop shown, except my laptop has 1 gig of memory and it has a 100 gig hard drive, as shown the latop has 60 gig hard drive and 512 megabytes of memory.So in a way mine is better, but I play extensive games such as Worl of WarCaraft, StarCraft, Yuri's Revenge, and other good games.This is the only laptop I have used that has played World of WarCraft online without any delay's or slowing down of the game!This computer is the best!All my friends have the same laptop, but of coarse, mine has the upgrades which add to the price, but it is worth it!!

great laptop
i love this laptop i bought one for my wife it it speed though almost anything she use's it for it's not great for high end games but midrange games and online etc it's great i upgraded the ram to 1 gb and the only problem i had with it was a bad dvd rom and gateway sent me a new rom within 2 days.great for the money

Excellent Laptop, GREAT screen w/o intel garbage
The other reviewer has a valid point about the restore. I hate those partitioned restores so I just dont rely on them (and I often delete them upon re-install). For a person who is a seasoned pro, this is a great buy. The screen is a shiny bright LCD with impeccible quaility. The Ati xpress 200 chipset has desktop power, and the mobile athlon rocks! I jacked the ram up to 1024 and run my vid card memory @ 128MB for better balance.
I wouldn't advise . . . has recovery issues
I purchased this laptop, and it's all well and good. The issue I have with this laptop is the way the hard drive is partitioned, and the poor recovery disk setup. The recovery disk does not have the bundled software that the laptop comes with, so, if anything happens to the hard drive, and you have to do a full restore, you would most likely lose the programs. In addition, a full restore would NOT restore the device drivers, unfortunately, as I have painfully experienced. I bought two of these, and have had cause to contact gateway for a CD that would be more helpful. Performance-wise though, it is a good system. This is my third Gateway laptop using the same form factor, and the monitor hinge is rather weak, and I have experienced serious cracking with my first one. ... Read more
