1-0 out of 5 stars !!!NOW INTRODUCING THE ANTI-USER LAPTOP!!!
IF YOU READ NO MORE OF MY LENGTHY DIATRIBE, READ THIS: DO NOT WASTE YOUR PRECIOUS AND/OR HARD-EARNED MONEY ON THIS "HIGH" (THAT'S A LAUGH!!!) PERFORMANCE PIECE OF JUNK; IT IS INCREDIBLY OVERPRICED AND OVERRATED.I've had three of these things because theyall crashed when brand new (the warranty gave me new ones, thank God); all the "talk" about Mac lately boggles the mind.I've had it for 16 months, taken care of it as well as an overwhelmed PhD student could possibly manage and I've experienced nothing but problems (ones that are QUITE PRICEY now that the warranty is up).The care plans should be included, moreover, instead of Mac's relentless PRICE GOUGING for even the slightest of upgrades. An example?I paid just under $140 for Mac OSX Tiger (V. 10.4.02) and all it did was clog my hard drive with more of Mac's trendy, flashy and largely useless "widgets" and other USELESS PROGRAMS and things that are, to be frank, nothing but cyber-status symbols."Multitasking" is impossible; "the color wheel" (the equivalent of the hourglass in Windows) comes on constantly even when you ask it to do the simplest tasks, like use Word (which is [for Mac] slow, sloppy and incompatible with people who like to get work done) and play iTunes simultaneously. It constantly needs its "Force Quit" application used because it cannot handle more than a trio of "major" programs running at once; it will just simply stop responding. Moreover, the "stylish"metal-plated design causes the exterior to becomedented and, on another note, the LCD display is damaged if put under even the lightest of rigor (if you have a hectic professional life, or school life, etc., avoid this computer like the Avian Flu).Readers, you're intelligent people who want the most for your money: Do you really want to SPEND THOUSANDS of dollars on something like this?Be sensible with a Dell, Toshibo (that's THE BEST BRAND I've worked with) or Sony for less money andan INFINITELY BETTER performance all-around.It is supposed to be this eminent, sterling state of the art machine and all it is really is a very photogenic, good-looking fashion item, plain and simple. All people do is say "that's pretty nice; smooth design" or something to that effect...if they ever asked me about the function, I would not have nice replies in hand.To be frank, Mac creates things (iPOD EXCLUDED) that look good and perform poorly most of the time.Bottom line: DO NOT BUY this computer if you are a professional person who likes to finish things, have a user-friendly experience, do not like an inanimate object to make you angry with its constant, unending problems and, finally, waste SO MUCH money. The iPod is good but the laptop is utterly USELESS and/or DREADFULLY SLOW about two-thirds of the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review from the converted
I've been a Windows/Unix user all my life. This is my first Mac and I love it.
5-0 out of 5 stars I switched!
I was looking into buying a new computer this summer. I needed something very portable, compatible with Windows and of course, stylish. (Style is KEY!) I was working in a very relaxed office setting over the summer in a web development company, and the girl I sat next to is a hardcore Mac addict. She urged me at no end to get a Mac. She let me use her iBook a few times to get a feel for it, and in the end, I blew all the extra money I made last summer and bought a PowerBook (12inch, the only upgrade was to 512MB Ram and an extra battery,).

In keeping with Apple's goal of providing a convenient technological hub to accommodate the modern Mac user's digital lifestyle, the newest PowerBook G4 with the DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive lets you edit movies, watch DVDs, and burn CDs anywhere. They've kept the sleek exterior as stunning as ever, but on the inside is a whole new architecture: faster PowerPC G4 processors, powerful new graphics capabilities, more RAM, and the world's most advanced operating system combine to deliver off-the-charts performance.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Apples and Oranges
I've had my TiBook since Nov 02.I'm a graphic designer (read: power user). I have a network of PCs and Macs at home and at work. I have no preference either way. I am not a Mac geek nor a PC geek. I just require power and this was the fastest machine, with the best screen available at the time.I purchased this machine because I needed to be able to work from the road. It meets my needs perfectly. 2-0 out of 5 stars Let's be totally honest, here...
I know there is a loyal following for Apple.I used to be one of them.I had a succession of macs since the 1980s.I recall that I never called tech support, even though I probably should have, sometimes.5-0 out of 5 stars The Guy Below Doesn't Know What the Heck He's Talking About

5-0 out of 5 stars A great affordable investment & fun to use
I purchased this 12" Powerbook 5 months ago. It wasn't the most recent model at the time, but it suited my needs. It still draws alot of attention whenever I use it in public. It is light weight and durable. To this day, no crashes. Airport Extreme works flawlessy where other wireless cards fail. Battery length is reasonable at a realistic 4 hours (A DVD movie is power intensive). No dead pixels -screen is still in great condition. I easily self installed additional ram, beefing it up to 768mb from the factory 256mb according to numerous reviews stating the factory installed memory was insufficient. The operating temperature of the laptop doesn't get excessively hot like other laptops. I spend more time on my powerbook now than i do reading books or watching TV.
2-0 out of 5 stars Apple Still Cant Get It Right
I had a iBook 800mhz that the logicboard died and I could not get it fixed for free even though Apple said later there iBooks had this flaw and would only fix certain ones that had the correct serial numbers. I gave them another chance with the 12inch 1.33ghz laptop worked nice for awhile but now one whole column on the left side of the lcd screen is screwed up. It shows in that row a higher contrast so it looks funky. I baby my laptop also just for poeple to know that so this looks like a factory problem again. I have learned Apple laptops are nice but they may only last a year. You can risk on this one but I would stay away if you dont have the cash.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best thing ever
Ten years ago I had a Mac.Then I went to law school and discovered that I lived in a world dominated by Bill Gates's Microsoft. So I became a PC user.I spent this year in Iraq and I had a Compaq laptop with me that served me well. Then I saw the specs on the 12 inch G4 PowerBook with superdrive. It is all that people say and more. The keyboard is roomy and comfortable (hard to believe given the small size) and the iLife bundled software enabled me to take my hundreds of digital photos and MPEG clips and create a movie after just a few hours of work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Met all of my needs without a flaw.
After owning this machine for a few months I am convinced I will never buydesktop machine again. This is the powerbook I have been waiting for. While not as powerful as some of its desktop brothers it easily breezes through most of the main apps I use (mainly DTP apps). My wife loves to edit on my machine using FCP 3 and her Canon GL1 (she also loves the dual display support which is flawless). I can't wait till all apps are OS X native. But finding unix apps ported for X has been easy, and running apps in classic has been smooth sailing so far. For most users this will be an excellent desktop computer replacement as well as a moblie computer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Apple refuses to exchange brand new G4
I purchased a brand new G4 on 02/15/2002 during the Olympics in Salt Lake City, opened the sealed box and found a white lited pixel on the screen. Totally dissappointed. Call the Mac store the next day who advised that they are ordering a replacement G4.4-0 out of 5 stars Think Real

5-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for...
When you are buying a Picasso, you can't expect to pay discount. The Powerbook G4 is a premium computer, and you pay a premium price. What you get puts similar PC-based products to shame, except, alas, on price.5-0 out of 5 stars A functional and industrial-design masterpiece.
Where other computer manufacturers make beige boxes, or, in the case of laptops, functional devices that can hardly be described as aesthetic trendsetters, Apple Computer revels in turning out eye-catching (and head-turning) industrial designs, time after time. Such is the case for the Titanium G4 Powerbook, an example of which I've had for nearly a year now. And, each time I remove this Powerbook from my carrying case and open it up in the presence of others, it never fails to generate "oohs" and "ahhs" from them, such is the mystique of Apple's proficiency at sleek styling and stunning display and performance.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Laptop Ever!
i purchase a new powerbook about every other year. i say this every year, but this machine rocks! it is amazing how fast it is & and as usual get tons of attention everywhere i go.this powerbook is extreamly fast, the screen is amazing, and its dvd/cd burner work without a flaw. Read more

I've been extremely happy with this computer and it has served me well. The only problem I've had Apple fixed right away.Highly recommended for anyone who will use their notebook as their primary or only computer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simply Put, the best computer I've ever owned
I think the title says it all, the display is wondeful and big with a viewing angle that is amazing. The feel and the look of the laptop is great. The battery has a long life as well as everything I need standard. It feels snappy, much more snappier then I expected from a laptop and OS X is just a joy to have.I love almost everything about it, and I wouldn't give it up for anything.5-0 out of 5 stars It's Terrific!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great notebook... but....
This is one of the best powerbooks I've ever owned expect for one minor bugger.... at times the chasis can get a little too hot to put on your lap. But with today's faster processors comes with more heat, so I guess it's no big-e. I used a coupon from UnderTag.com, so it was a bargain for me too.

1-0 out of 5 stars ...
I got this because I thought is would be durable. I was very wrong. It has problems with the paint bubbling up and falling off of the front. ... I have never gotten an apple that did not have major hardware issues. ... The software is really rockin, but this version of the powerbook has more than one problem... Check the review sites ... for all the gory details. Then get a G4 tower or an IMac maybe? Good luck with your purchase. The new powerbooks are alumimim and so should not have this problem. ...

Who says that alot people don't use macs? Well I currently have a job in digital video editing and the is no other computer in our field. With MacOS 10.2 you can network with PCs, share files, run microsoft office and open PC files. Apple is the defintion of cool(at least I think so). Everthing they do is orginal, take the Newton/MessagePad series. About one and a half years before the first Palm. It was the orginal PDA, who thinks diffrent, only Apple. Not to mention MHZ (megahertz) doesn't matter as much as people think when comparing PCs to macs. The G4 chip on this computer is a 7 stage 677 mhz processer (think of it as 7 steps at 677 miles per hour. Compared to the Pent4 a 20 stage processer, so the pcs need a high mhz to keep up with the macs. ... Read more
