Powerhouse heavy hitter
It does everything I needed and more.Precessor works extremely well while multi tasking (split screen DVD while browsing the web...etc)Its a bit heavy, but for large screen multimedia purposes, whose counting the ounces.Its the best laptop I've ever used.I give it a 5 star

Good performance - low battery life
I am happy with the performance of this notebook, but i had 2 drawbacks.one, the battery life sucks, i just recently purchased a new notebook for mobility and made this vaio a desktop basically.and two, it is bulky.i purchased it online b/c the features where appealing but when i received it was a lot bigger then i expect it.but aside from that, a very good notebook, just not mobile.

If you need to do presentations do not buy
I have had this laptop for two years and I love it.I do have one exception where I hate it.If you are going to be working with this laptop with a projector, this is not a computer for you.It will have wavy disturbing lines on either your computer screen or the projector.Depending on which one you make as secondary.IT absolutely sucks for this purpose.I would not have bought this laptop if I had known that the video card cannot handle intense graphics when displaying on two screens.But for personal use it is great.Although my keys on the keyboard are starting to fade.Also you cannot get upgrades on the video card if you want too. ... So Close
I wouldn't hesitate giving this model a 5 star rating, were it not for its outrageously loud cooling fan. I swear, the thing is louder than my old E-Machines desktop (from '98!), making use of this computer an almost painful experience. The VAIO suffers from all the usual problems with Windows models - OS crashes, freezes, etc. - but these are not frequent. Damn, I love it's performance, features and appearance, but there's no reason to buy a computer ifusing it is as unpleasant as this.

Average laptop
I purchased this notebook around 2 years back. Overall the performance is good. As mentioned by other reviewer, the battery life is very poor. You can not do multitasking, the performance becomes slow. I don't like the screen as well. It doesn't have the wide, xbrite screen and you can not watch movies in group.

i bought this machine because it was relatively cheap and i wanted something portable with a lot of processing power.I have never wanted for processing speed, and i can take the thing around places, so my basic needs are satisfied.

When you buy a product that is designed and meant to fulfill certain needs, just expect the best performance out of those features.
Nice camera. Not so good at night
The camera is one of the best considering the price and the size of it. The only problem I found is that it has not a light, so you will need to buy the external one, if not all the shots that you do at night will be very dark.

The Worst Notebook I've Owned
It may be too late to help anyone looking to buy a Sony notebook computer, but still I feel I should leave for posterity my experiences with the Sony PCG-V505DX.
Love it ... when it works.
I've had the sony PCG-V505DX for more than 2 years and overall, I've been satisfied with it.What I like the most are the keyboard, the sleek feel of the computer, and its weight.It's a pleasure typing on it.The design is great and it's light enough to carry around.
Mine broke after 18 months
The laptop is sleek, sexy, and is ergonomic enough, but apparently, there is a reliability issue. Mine stopped booting up after 18 months of normal use. I don't leave it running hot, I use that Targus cooling pad with a USB-powered fan.
