Had problems with this screen from the start. The image 'jogs' from side to side every so many seconds. It's not all that noticeable on a moving image, but gets very irritating once you're aware of it. Latest problem (nine months in) is a distinct loss of image quality when using s-video input. I'm told by Sony tech support that the s-video card is going out.

Powerful Notebook

Heavy, slower than it sounds, cheap construction, non-standard hardware ...
I have to chime in on this one. My PCG-K45 was an unsolicited, and much appreciated, gift. You get some bang for the buck with this laptop. And the screen is really nice. But in many other ways, you can see how you get what you pay for:
Great desktop replacement
The sheer magnifigence of this notebook always puts a smile on my face when I turn it on. The screen is very beautiful. I see a lot of copycats whenever I go to BestBuy or Compusa, but this screen (X-brite technology, I think) will always be better than the competition.Also, there is a decent video card(ATI Radeon 64MB, good networking, and conveniently located USB ports (3 total).This notebook also packs a lot of power with it's Pentium 4 processor, which makes it quite loud, however.

A great desktop replacement
I am motivated to respond with some more thoughts on this laptop. I have owned mine for well over a year. I didn't intend it this way, but it seems I bought it when they were first released. My laptop has been absolutely reliable. As President of my corporation, I use it a minimum 10 hours a day. And have been for the whole time I've owned it. Not once has it required any repair.

It's a lot of money...but you get a lot of machine
This Sony computer is simply the best piece of equipment I have ever owned. I did my homework-- I read dozens of reviews, visited websites, and talked to a wide range of people before I decided on this one. Don't listen to anyone else, Sony makes the best computers. I used to sell computers for a living and Sony machines were never returned. This machine can do everything from burning DVDs to editing video to playing ANY PC game with ease. It comes with six speakers which sound great. I paired the PC with a 19" Sony LCD top of the line monitor and now I almost hate leaving it for even a moment. The 7 USB ports come in handy. The hard drives are huge and come setup as one giant drive. I have had it a few months and it has never even frozen up one time. Fast and reliable dual core computer
Like previous reviewer, I am satisfied with this product overall except for the facts (1) I need to buy recovery CD/DVD from sony web sites unless DIY the CD/DVD by instruction, (2) I need to upgrade to XP Pro in order to add the system to network domain.

Great, but a few problems
I have used this laptop for 6 months, it has great performance definitly, i can play many high end games on this laptop and they look GREAT on the bright vibrant screen.
Light weight and appropriate size of monitor
Machine is good but the description in Amazon was not so.

No output -- confusing specifications
Specifications talked about S-Video, Composite, DVI outputs.The only true output is HDMI.Composite according to Sony doesn't show any good pictures.It is a totally useless system unless you want to buy an HDMI Plasma or LCD TV.I told Sony that they were crooks for selling such a system and they said that the people I bought it from were the crooks for not letting me know that I would have to buy another TV to use it.I bought it from Tiger Direct and they will not let me return it, so I guess they are crooks.

I love my media center
I purchased this item and I recieved within a couple of days shipping was alot faster then I expected. The build of this computer is great, but the picture quality was even better. I am super happy with it. Just an FYI you must have a tv with Component Video, DVI, or HDMI there is no monitor port on his power house machine.

LONG support Wait times & No HD Cable Support
Sony's technical support put me on hold for OVER 2 HOURS.This is unacceptable for a mayor player in the computer business.Also, I am very dissapointed that this equipment does not support HD signals from my cable company. This also is unacceptable.Otherwise I like the equipment. ... Read more

Hard drive problem?
I bought one of these on Ebay when it first came out. My first hard drive lasted about a month. My second one lasted about 2 months. My third hard drive lasted about 2 months also. The computer was always taken very good care of and always covered up when not being used, so I have no idea what went wrong. I will say that Sony customer service repaired it promptly and even after the warranty was expired. It now appears to be working fine. I thought about selling it before another hard drive goes out, but I like this way too much to get rid of it. The picture quality is extraordinary. I'm keeping it until I find something better and I haven't seen it yet.

I bought this item from eBay for about $2300. I don't think I can find a better performance for this price. If you are planning to buy an expensive item from eBay, check if seller has sold same item before, and read the feedbacks.
