3-0 out of 5 stars Be Careful with this Laptop
I have to be up-front here - I bought a different model Toshiba - the M105-S3041, from Amazon last month. This laptop, the M105-S3064, uses the same case and display as my laptop.I was initially very happy with it.However, I must caution any potential buyers of two issues.First, the powerinlet on the back of the laptop isn't sufficiently reinforced and can be deformed if you are not careful.I have been careful with mine but somehow I damaged it and I just had to use a jeweler's screwdriver to get the power plug inserted into the back of the laptop. The power supply still charges the battery - but the plug is now a loose fit in the back of the laptop.Second - through normal use I now have two different sets of dead pixels on the display. One looks like two pixels - the other looks like three. This is the ninth laptop (one Toshiba, six Dells, one H-P, and one Compaq) I have purchased for myself or my family (two daughters in college) and this is the ONLY system which I have discovered any dead pixels. For the price (mine was $749) these are otherwise great little laptops - just be forewarned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Verdaderamente la recomiendo
despues de checar varios equipos de varias marcas, checando componentes y toda la cosa esta fue una exelente opcion, es compacta, ligera, la pila dura bastante, y la verdad su precio es justo por los componentes que la integran.

1-0 out of 5 stars I do not reccomend this item or Toshiba for that matter
I purchased this notebook from BestBuy on a spur of the moment because I had been looking for a replacement for my HP which was old and I was afraid of HP since they merged with Compaq (junk). I had it for about 2-3 months when I tried to burn a couple of CDs and the DVD super multi drive died. I brought it to the only local service provider for Toshiba and they sat on it for three or four weeks before they anounced: "you have a bad DVD drive" (genius). Then they call back weeks later and say they can't get a new drive from Toshiba for at least another 3 weeks. Now were talking getting my notebook back in about two months total to fix a problem that should not have happened in the first place. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Product
I love this computer - the screen is amazing (perfect for watching and editing movies or working with photos), the keyboard is comfortable (the keys make a little clicking noise that is quite pleasant), and the speakers are outstanding. The speed is great and the software package is decent (it wasn't terribly difficult to get rid of all that junk that comes bundled with it) but seems a bit stingy for the price of the machine.Be warned:this is certainly not a "laptop" - this thing is HUGE and quite heavy (but not that hot).

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny sounding name but a GOOD COMPUTER!
Great computer for entertainment and work purposes.I'm not a computer geek and may lack the technical language to explain the following but I found it easy to operator. The keyboard has short cut buttons for tv,dvd,cd etc.. The built in speakers are loud and clear, the screen is vivid and the colors pop! The minus 1 star comes from the dual mouse pad is a little too sensitive and would freeze if your finger touched more than one command. (only for a moment),the volume control dial response is a little slow and the obvious..it's a little HEAVY!(10 lbs)and awkward to balance on your lap. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A very solid laptop, works great with linux, pretty quiet.
The keyboard is very consistant and feels great but has some strangly placed keys. The Tilde and windows keys are good examples.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good Laptop with a Software Flaw !!
I bought this laptop recently and it was very easy to get it started. The Screen is very good. But the problems started when my Internet Explorer Stopped responding ( Hanged) and it started happing randomly and frequently. So i switched my browser to Firefoxbut with the same result. The Firefox browser also hanged randomly and that would cause the Task Manager to also stop resoponding for a minute , before i could kill the firefox process.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great laptop with minor deficiencies.Love it!!
This is a fabulous lapotp and I'm honestly surprised that it's not more popular. It's very small, lightweight and stylish. The screen is large (for an ultra-light) and very sharp. For my purposes it's absolutely perfect... and the price is very reasonable.
2-0 out of 5 stars Slow and hot
This portable runs very, very hot underneath (there are two warning stickers).Within a few minutes of booting, it is uncomfortably hot on the bottom side.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Ultra Portable Laptop
When i opened the package, i was amazed by its size and elegance.Having used a corporate laptop (dell d600) for the past 3 years, this was a refreshing change. This laptop is not for programming, gaming, heavy-duty number crunching, or other demanding tasks.I am using this for business school as a desktop extension, so the most taxing task i will be doing is moderate-level statistics, word processing, spreadsheet work, powerpoint presentations, and lite-weight database applications.

Infused with Toshiba's most advanced technologies, the Portege M405-S8003 easily converts from a compact, lightweight notebook into a highly capable and versatile Tablet PC. 4-0 out of 5 stars I'm extremly pleased with this Tablet PC.
Okay, so if you are like me you want to hear from other buyers and see about the reviews for the products I plan on purchasing. 1-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality manufacture, parts are breaking, risk of short-circuit
While the underlying principle of having a tablet PC is a nice idea, Toshiba quality appears to have taken a nosedive. If you buy this computer, you may risk the problems I have had, such as a latch with small plastic pieces that broke with normal use within a month, and more importantly, an AC adaptor wire whose insulation behind the computer-side plug has worn away after about four months of use, exposing wires into the air.It seems I am at risk of having a short-circuit or electrocution as a result of this manufacturing defect.I called support and was first lied to, told that they would cover the adaptor and ship me another.I waited a couple of weeks and called back today, asking where itwas.I was told that they had never said they would ship an adaptor (completely untrue, wish I had recorded the first conversation with "support") and that I had been informed it was not covered by warranty (also completely untrue). The woman put me on hold to speak with another representative, but so far, to no avail. The next level of customer rep wouldn't help me either. I offer this as a cautionary example of what you may expect of both manufacturing quality and support quality. This is a hazardous situation I have now, and given the recent Dell battery recall.I wouldn't recommend this or other Toshiba notebooks, as the defect appears to include their adaptors as well. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Nice tablet for the money!
To test the tablet functionality of the Toshiba R25, I'm writing this review on it--handwriting it and having the tablet enter it as regular text. So far, I think it's a really good, affordable computer for the money. I'm concerned about how great this computer will be in the long run, but so far, it's very impressed with it. I highly suggest this computer to anyone who's looking for an affordable tablet PC. If you don't intend to use the table itself, then I don't think this is worth buying--I'm sure there must be much more affordable alternatives to this one.But if you seriously do need a tablet and you want a convertible, then this the way to go.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for starters
Great tablet PC however there are some design flaws. The pen comes out the bottom when your at tablet mode. Also, the fingure print reader is premature. But for the price, it is a solid buy, even though the components making up the tablet is cheap. You get what you paid for, literally.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it now but it did not work as expected out of the box
I was initially very disappointed with the performance of the wireless link.It was far from reliable!I had to download the updates to the drivers and apps and muck a little with the power saver tool. Now the machine works like a charm and I'm glad I bought it. ... Read more
