Nice, Inexpensive, Beautiful Screen
I am always a bit reluctant to purchase an all-in-one model computer because of the lack of ability to upgrade it. But I'm very pleased with this vaio. It plays games such as Morrowind Oblivian, and records my Sci-fi and soaps with ease. It arrived quickly from the sony store and had no product defaults.

Don't buy -- Sony doesn't provide upgrades
I bought one of these two months ago and was so very pleased -- even though it cost just over $2000.This was the most I'd ever spent on a PC, but it was to be the great convergence of my live(s).It works as advertised, though DVD is noisy and TV not as clear as I would like, but it is my fastest experiecne ever on a PC.It records TV and video as advertised and easily converts TV and my digital-8 videos to DVD.Although the TV tuner lacks some clarity, the DVDs are great.However, I now feel like it is a pig.Sony refuses to support or provide upgrades to Media Center Edition version 2005.Since MCE is only availabe on OEM machines, there are no other upgrade options.By all accounts this is a much improved program that should be on this great hardware.Rumor is that it would fix the TV picture clarity issue.Don't buy a Sony, even if it has MCE 2005, because they won't upgrade it.A word to the wise.... ... worst comuter i have ever seen
bought it at CompUSA today, try to recover the system, having the same problem as above (took me 2 hours to make the recovery disc too). got to return it. never buy a SONY computer agaian.

Nice package
The RA8xxx Series from Sony is very nice.Big plus is the cooling system.The machine is super quiet.The integrated Home Media support is a nice bonus.I don't think I'd want to use one of these as a TiVo replacement but for a home machine it's tough to beat from a combination of style, power, features and performance.
buyer beware!!
Just bought this yesterday at compusa. Will be taking it back tomorrow morning. This is the 5th computer I have owned and the worse I have ever seen. Sony has allot of wonderful software on this system and impressive 5.1 speakers that come with it. But you are screwed if you have to do a system recovery. Followed the directions and spent 2 hours making recovery disks before putting any of my software on it, only to find out that when it tries to recover your system it prompts you to insert disk #1 and press ok. Guess what? You can't press ok because your wireless mouse and keyboard are no longer functional. And turning off the computer wiped out ALL my system restore checkpoints. So I couldn't even restore to a earlier time. When I tried it again I then got a message that it couldn't locate the recovery partion. And forget about any type of help from the website or the non-existant user manual. The only help they had was to change the batteries in the mouse and keyboard (they already had brand new batteries). ... Read more

Best PC I've ever owned.Lots of software.Extremely quiet
I purchased this PC about two months ago with a 19 inch Sony X-brite LCD so I've had time to play around with it and I'll tell you that this PC is awesome.Having had a Dell and Gateway computer beforehand...I'd rank this particular Sony better than those other PCs.Compared to the others, build quality is excellent and Sony managed to pack a lot of hardware into a very small and attractive package.
Lots to like, but disappointing overall
I've had a fully loaded version of this computer since November 15, 2004. I use it all day every day at work and stress it out pretty heavily.
Quiet as a mouse!
Gamers, digital photo enthusiasts and home video/TV series fans will love this computer.

This computer is great
I have had my unit for several months now with zero problems. I easily upgraded my memoty to 1gb and that was well worth it.I run photoshop and illustrator as well as indesign for school and have no problems with the machine operating this software. I also purchased a kodak digital camera which works great with i-photo. This was a very positive purchase as well as being my first mac and I will definatly purchase a mac again.

Get an iMac
My Uncle bought an eMac and it never works right.He puts a lot of software on it which is probably the problem.It also won't work with his MP3 player.I wouldn't work with the scanner he bought until he called tech support for an hour.I have a friend in my Mac club who took his eMac back and bought an iMac for similiar reasons.His iMac works great.This model may be cheap but you get what you pay for.Save yourself the trouble.

Perfect First Computer
My girlfriend purchased an eMac as her first computer and has had a great time learning on it. For the past 5 months it has been rock solid. It has a beautiful screen, much like the 17" monitor that goes with my G4 Cube. We have had no monitor problems like some have reported. Nice Computer So Far
Very fast computer. 2nd Drive is noisy, other than that the computer is very quiet. The network port would only connect to my wireless router at 10Mbps even though a network cable, but would connect to other network devices normally. Speakers are OK. You will want to look at the Sony RA834G before buying since it is a newer model with similar specs.
Great Machines
I've bought Sony VAIO's for years and I havn't had a single problem. They come with everything that you need and more and are very upgradable for when you need it. I would recommend this or any other VAIO and can almost 100 percent guarantee that you will not have a problem with it. If you do, they have an outstanding customer support that will actually HELP you.

Lemon - Terrible experience with this Sony product
Recently bought a brand new Sony VAIO VGC-RA828G.Has never worked.Sony has replaced the memory and motherboard.Just completed a full recovery and now hard drive is bad.Sony has me shipping it back to them even though I've had an onsite technician here three times.Sony refuses to give me my money back or new machine.The best I can hope for now is a rebuilt lemon.Please don't make the same mistake I did.Buy a Dell ... A PC Hardware Fan is ABSOULTEY RIGHT!
I am an apple fan through and through, and when my original iMac finally blew after over 6yrs and had to quickly purchase a new computer, I looked straight to the new eMac models.I researched this product thoroughly and all of the information that I received basically labled both of the eMac models with capabilities of burning CDs, and viewing DVDs.I never knew that there was an eMac model in existence that was sold BEFORE these models.So when I happily purchased this eMac, thinking I was getting a great deal, I was told by the retail associate that ALL of the eMac models had these features.I never knew that this model did NOT.They act like this model didn't even EXIST!I am very disappointed in this purchase mainly because of the misinformation currently available about each of these models.This is just a glorified version of the older iMacs and the manual does not tell you a THING about how to use this new operating system.You will HAVE to purchase supplement manuals by other publishers to even get a CLUE unless you're already familiar with newer iMac models and MacOSX.So, buyers beware.Just make sure that you're getting what you expect to get with this model, and not being misinformed.

Absolutely unfair that Apple would have ever sold this model
This computer looks and feels just like the more expensive versions except for a crucial difference...The Superdrive or the Combo drive which Apple is so constantly hyping doesn't come on this model.All you get is a CD rom drive. And if you want to use iDVD or iTunes to burn music?YOu can't!You must buy a separate drive and then hunt on the internet for hack software to try to play DVDs.iDVD will not work AT ALL on your machine.Apple even went so far as to install a microchip to stop your computer from playing iDVD on any drive but a Superdrive.The other problem is Mac OSX.It is a nightmare!Imagine returning to the days when you had to experiment with everything on your computer just to find out how each program worked.There is NO instruction manual for OSX.And it is very non-user friendly.BEWARE and stay far away from Apple.They are interested in only one thing...selling new and newer computers.They will do anything they can to get you to buy a brand new machine.

A recent user survey in PC magazine identified Apple computers as the most reliable and easiest to use computers currently available. Yes, most people use Windows-based PCs, but do you want to be another member of the PC herd -- with all of the problems and frustrations presented by Windows-based PCs -- or are you looking for a computer which is user friendly and seldom crashes? If ease of use and reliability are more important to you than being one of the crowd, please seriously consider buying an Apple. Since the eMac is Apple's least expensive computer, it's a terrific way to enter the user-friendly world of Apple computers at a very reasonable price. And don't be concerned about the 800 MHz processor, this is a very fast computer -- G4 processors are equivalent to Pentium processors twice their speed.
