Some people are confirmed homebodies. Others answer the call of the road and travel light. For those who avoid full-time commitment to either mode of existence, there’s the Sony Vaio PCG-R505GL SuperSlim Pro notebook PC. At 4.3 pounds and about 1.3 inches thick, the R505GL offers a versatile blend of ultramobility and convenient all-in-one functionality when coupled with its included SlimDock docking station.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Keep Looking - CS is important!
Well I have just about had it with Sony.4-0 out of 5 stars Great computer but has a glitch after 1.5 years
I am a graduate student and I absolutely love this computer.I have this exact model. It is light, portable and is great for word processing and web searching.I don't do anything more than that so this is probably a fancier computer than I really "need".I rarely use the docking station so I carry it without. However, I was very disappointed to find that one of my USB ports went out on me only a little after a year.Luckily I bought this computer at Best Buy and bought the 3 year performance plan which is WELL worth the money.2-0 out of 5 stars time will tell
Bought one.Returned it because the floppy drive didn't work and the screen went on the fritz.Exchanged it for another one.Again the floppy drive doesn't work and the DVD-ROM drive won't open.I talked to Sony support and they claim they don't have hardware problems with the computer or its docking station (though they had in the past).Curious to know if others have had this problem too or if I am just spectacularly unlucky this year.I haven't yet decided whether or not to give Sony a third try on this machine. It's a pity since it seems like such a well designed laptop, if only it would work.Read more

While Dell's Latitude line is aimed at larger corporate markets, this isthe line you want to look at if you're a mobile power user. The Latitude CPx isextremely well equipped, boasting a 650 MHz Pentium III processor with 256 MB ofmemory, a 12 GB hard drive (specially shock mounted to reduce the possibility ofdamage if dropped), and a 14.1-inch TFT screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768pixels. 4-0 out of 5 stars A very good start for anyone, but...
Look dont let this price deceive you. You still need to keep in mind that this thing is integrated so you cant customize its hardware in any way(Dell and Gateway), so basically forget about high performance games since you cant change it graphics card. But I wont lie, for this price I wouldnt pass it up. It can still be a useful item to have. Just dont expect windows to come with this so you might be spending another 200 bucks for the os but I wouldnt use windows anyways just try Linux.

1-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating keyboard problem
I recently purchased this and found that 3 keyes were not working at all. Checking the posts on DellTalk I quickly realized that this is a widespread problem with the Latitude CPX and that there is no fix or recall. I will return it for a refund and purchase a laptop from a different manufacturer. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Hot to the point of burning finger tips
Its a cute looking computer. Light and a perfect size. BUT, it gets so hot that I basically can not use it after about half an hour. The cursor area is untoucahble. Even typing is uncomfortble and unplesant because of the heat and the high temperature of the keyboard.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very nice ultracompact notebook
I bought this notebook to use while travelling since I take lots of digital photos and need somewhere to store them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love it, love it, love it
I bought this for my job.I am a road warrior and have to use my notebook on each appointment.I have a Dell 15.4" at home that I love, but it got to heavy for me in and out of the car.So this 10.6" is absolutely perfect. It's considerably faster than my Dell, which is a Pentium M also.My husband said it's because it doesn't have that Centrino mobile technology.I don't know and personally I don't care.As long as it does the job, and it does. The only thing is that the words are soooo small on the small screen, but I've gotten use to that. It's so cute and little that I carry it in my Louis Vutton tote bag.My cousin liked it so much that she just bought one last week.I am very satisfied and I don't see any future problems. ... Toshiba may make good products, but their support is the worst i have ever come across. They have lost my laptop for over a month now and do not care a lick about it.They're tech support team is in Turkey and they dont care a thing about anybody. They kept hanging up on me and refused to help me saying it will take some time. When i called back- no one knew anything and had zero updates.DO NOT BUY TOSHIBA PRODUCTS! 1-0 out of 5 stars If there were "0" stars, that's what this Laptop Deserves
The Toshiba Satellite P35 is THE WORST computer I have ever owned. Toshiba is aware of the overheating problems with this computer and should issue a recall / swap, to all suckers (including myself) who bought this POORLY engineered "ultimate gaming machine."
2-0 out of 5 stars Performance not meeting specs
I think when a unit claims to have such a superior CPU, RAM and Video combination, you would expect that Microsoft's FlightSIM could perform at the default settings better than what I can achieve.Currently that is only about 8 - 12 fps (30 when above 5,000 ft).It does shutdown eventually but I do get more time when elevating the unit off a surface.I ran WINTUNE and even with this combination, I can only achieve about 24 megapixels/sec for OpenGL and 137 megapixels/sec for 3D.Compare that to my desktop speed of 780 megapixels/sec for 3D.In fairness to Toshiba, some vendors have found other ways to increase the frame rates of their simulators.Namely, X-plane 8.1 and greater; can achieve frame rates in the upper 20s on the p35. It's dissapointing in my view.I have tried to overclock the GPU with not much performance gain so I removed it and decided not to expect anymore than what it can do.The other concern I have is, I see reported for the video card, conflicting GPU memory size.I see 128 AGP with some weird thing saying something about 54 MB.I have no idea what that status is trying to tell me.I think everyone here has shown that this product does not live up to the hype but should.I have not tried disabling the hyperthreading yet for testing but I may at sometime and will let you know if I run across anything earth shattering

1-0 out of 5 stars Toshiba's diregard for the consumer
If you want to experience the latest Windows Media Center 2005 edition software, this machine is not the right one. It comes loaded with Media Center 2004. Once you purchase it, you will realize that you wont have many of the functionality of Windows Media Center 2005 such as concurrent record and play, better interface etc. The worst part is Toshiba does not give you an upgrade path and you are stuck. It is a distasteful feeling to realize you have hardware that has outdated software the day you purchase it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sellers who are Fraudlant
When I see an item advertised on the Amazon Web site and the product has a very low price and the Seller asks the Buyer to email them before they purchase, I question it.Most of these situations, the Seller asked for cash to be sent via Western Union and the Seller never sent the product. This same item was advertised for $1200 on 10/2/04 and was reported to be a fraud and removed from the Amazon site. Now, just two days later another Seller is selling the same item at a very low unreal price.I would like Amazon to investgate this Seller who is advertising this product at this low price.I ordered this product from another Vendor on another web site for $2299.I rate the product 5 stars, however question Sellers who have extremely low prices and ask that you email them prior to submitting the order.Thank you, Frank Robert Speece

5-0 out of 5 stars Qosmio -A Winner!
I buy a new laptop every year, but I don't upgrade until I find a machine with specs clearly exceeding the last. Qosmio is clearly a step above most other laptops. The first thing you notice when you crank it up for the very first time is the screen. Although the maximum resolution is a disapointing 1024X768 pixels, the screen is absolutely the brightest screen I have ever seen anywhere including most CRT's! The display is incredible! And, as it turns out, 1024X768 is a very comfortable resolution. I am grateful for the 80GB hardrive which comes with a toshiba utility to reduce hardrive noise... but for the life of me I can't figure out why.. the machine is very quiet and the Centrino chip runs in conjunction with the 855chipset flawlessly and cooly. I boosted the memory to 1GB. The machine comes with a single 512mb chip, and I reccomend going to 1GB... otherwise it's like driving a BMW at 55mph. The computer comes with windows media edition and two remote controls! I was flabergasted when I saw them both. One is used withing the windows environment for media center. The other is used to play dvd's or cd's or TV from a power off condition without loading windows! That makes this machine a wonderful DVD player with a 15" screen! It's very cool! but still 2 remotes? Couldn't they figure out how to make one do everything?

5-0 out of 5 stars Its a Desktop replacement for basic mobility
Criticizing the battery life or the weight on the HP Pavilion is lame, because that is not what it is intended on emphasizing. This product is made to host Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition, and should be treated that way. It isn't the most mobile of all notebooks, but it shouldn't be used that way. The best purpose for the notebook side to it is so you can move it from room to room in your house and still access your data and entertainment, weather in the living room or the work desk. Sure the battery is only good for a single DVD movie, but thats all it needs. Using this as a computer to take to school every day or work on a constant basis is just not practical. But if you want a computer you can use around the house, this is the one for you.
2-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality
1) Poor quality material
4-0 out of 5 stars Does what its supposed to do
I bought the zd8060 2 months ago and havent had ANY problems whatsoever with the build quality. This thing IS a beast though. It has a P4 so it runs too hot to actually have it on your lap and only lasts 1.5 hrs on the battery. Its got a beautiful screen and a nice number pad on the right. The mouse pad is a little sketchy at times (cursor just goes wherever it feels like going) but the great thing about that is there's a button right above it so you can disable it (also, the space on the right of the mouse is big enough to use a usb mouse on).

Get ready to feel the high-speed computing power of the Acer Ferrari 4006WLMi (model LX.FR40M.027), a continuation of the speedy, mobile-centric laptops the two companies have previously collaborated on. The Acer Ferrari series has been highly rated by users and sports all the advanced features any user would want, for portable use or as a desktop replacement.I've had mine for two months, with no problems that needed tech support and with no software compatibility issues.I use this for work as well as some play, and while hard-core gamers might want an AlienWare unit, the vast majority of serious gamers would be happy with this system.
