So far so good...
So far I have enjoyed using my HP pavilion...it has given me no trouble at all. Wireless is great as well as speed and memory.I have not had a chance to use the DVD burner yet but am not anxious.

Very nice so far
After using IBM ThinkPad for 6 years I was looking for something cheap because Thinkpad are not (Lenovo???). So far HP DV4250 works fine because I got this for half price of ThinkPad. 15.4 inch screen is pretty good (1280x800 and true color). Main thing performance is good and you can always increase RAM to 1GB but 512MB enough for general use. (I am software Pro and notebook is ideal for development work). I bought this computer a couple months ago and have only been disappointed.First there is all kinds of annoying software installed that you have to uninstall. Second, on the keyboard the shift key broke. I have sent it back to HP and they have had it for 2 weeks now waiting for the part that they told me would take 3 days to fix.

About the fan and the software
I just read other's reviews about the fan and I have to say I had the same problem...until I uninstalled the Sony energy saving software. Since I started to use Windows XP default energy manager fan works very little and only when I'm runing high demanding programs. So I really recomend you to do the same.
Good but some significant flaws
I bought my Vaio nearly one year ago. Since then, I had not a single tecnical problem. It is small, lightweitght and cute. However, it comes with a hiden HDD partition that makes unavailable 5 valuable GB of your hard disk!I upgraded my computer to WinXP Pro and found that Drivers were not available, the only answer I got from thecnical assistance was that I had to buy them!! An the worse is that they don't shell you regular drivers, they shell you a pack which authomatically creates the danmn hidden partition again...

I have this notebook, and people often comment about how big it is, but it doesn't bother me because I use it on my desk instead of a desktop, also it's portable so no big deal.I think it works pretty well, and the keyboard is big enough to let me type properly, unlike the tiny notebooks.
I hate this laptop & it's jumping cusor!!
I received this laptop as a graduation gift. I would have never chosen it on my own. First of all, it it too heavy and awkward to carry around. Secondly, even at its highest the volume is not very loud. The quality of the speakers leaves a lot to be desired - They have a very "tinney" sound - Definately not for multimedia use.Worst of all is the jumping cursor. It is impossible to type without the cursor jumping randomly around the page and inserting words within words. Disabling the touchpad helps - but then what is the sense of having a touchpad? About all this piece of junk is good for is playing solitaire.

Within a month, TONS of problems
To start with, I was thrilled to try this new computer out (got it at work, so thankfully i didn't spend a dime of my money on it). To begin with, the battery life is abysmal. It begins operating at 1/2 power within a half hour and then after about an hour of looking at the rapidly dimming screen, it's pretty much lights out. Lets just say, this can be frustrating when trying to finish a report or some other project on the road.

The good:
Really disapointed
I was really disapointed with this computer. 3 months after buying the notebook. My hard drive crashed and i had to spend like 200 dollars to get it fixed. Its also very bulky and compared to the modern age computers, it is also slow.

Product worth the price by 90%
Sony has all the good features with this model with high processor speed in its class and the 1 gb RAM with which you can do lot of high volume processing with applications. The Screen clarity is very good. Power backup is at the max 60 mins with the min resolution setting. Not recommended for the people on move, then you may need additional power backup and weight you need to carry back(8 lbs).
